ok well my car has no snow tires so it will be driven very very little this winter only enough to keep the tires form getting flat spots and making sure the engine runs now and again.

since this is my first winter with a car i wont be driving is there anything i should do to prep it or things i shoudl watch out for during the winter? shoudl i make sure there is as little gas in it as possible etc etc those sorts of things. thanks!!

I would fill up with good 93 from Twitchells airport (no ethanol) and let it sit. Your summer tires are going to be ROCK HARD this winter. Even driven only on "nice days" those kind of tires just aren't meant to stay plyable in those temps. Be careful.

My summer tires turn to glass when it gets cold. Seconding the if you have to drive it, be extra extra careful.

Get some snow tires, your car will love the winter!

ok sure. please make your check payable to kristof plummer

Someone (Trevor maybe) had some 18 snow tires he was selling a while back for a good deal too. You should have jumped on it. Even if you don't plan on using it much. You would have the option to go somewhere in an emergency. That car+those tires+snow=suicide.

+1 for filling the gas tank. Keep it full. A full tank help prevent condensation, adding water to the fuel. Treat the gas with Sta-Bil. If it was me I would do some research on Marine Sta-Bil for use in cars. From what little I have heard the marine stuff is better for ethanol/condensation/water. I'm no expert, but with todays 4 stroke boat engines the Marine Sta-Bil should be fine for cars as well, IMO.

if you are putting the suby away...how will you get around? is this your first maine winter?

**** i love driving in the snow. im usually out before the roads are plowed. i go home when the plows come out lol.

trust me...save a few bucks and get a nice cheap set of winterforces and enjoy that weapon you have in the snow. it IS the reason it has awd you know

the subes can sit a long time, just let it sit there.

the tank full or empty, who cares. The old subes..3psi versions, the fuel pumps shut off somewhere near half tank and above. to kick a sitting one into action, would need it sitting around at less than half tank.

the new subes, unless concerned for 150 pounds of fuel on cold struts all winter..they don't need a full tank either, the pump gives a shot every run.

other than the obvious stuff, they don't much, like anything else.

Add a trickle charger, or your "alarm" will probably drain your batt'ry.

Also, Sta-Bil in a full tank of super.

I stored the RX8 for years this way, with no issues.

I would save up and buy someones used 06-07 BBS wheels and get 17" snows. Cheaper then 18's and more rubber to soak up bumps. Also, Gabe (SUBARUDE) has some TPMS for sale cheap you could toss in them.

Something to look into.

I think we are beating a dead horse about driving that thing in the snow. He doesn't even want to take it down a dirt road. Just put some good gas in it and run it once a week for a bit.

Yep

how about if we kidnap him and strap him into one of the Team O'Neil Impreza school cars on a day with HUGE snowbanks, turn him loose on those fun O'Neil's roads....when he's done he'll go straight out and buy a bunch of STI size snow tires and his car will be salty and dirty forevermore.

I remember my first "hot*****", brand-y new car... I stored it, too.

He will eventually realize that it's a waste to have an AWD STi, depreciating (um) quite heavily, sitting, while he makes fat payments. Then he'll drive it "like he owns it".

If Subaru does any interesting end-of-year sales I'll probably get rid of my GF's Accord coupe and get an '09

STI, and I promise that if I do, I'll drive it in the mooosh!

i will be driving my wife's pilot. the only time i drive my car now is to either go out for dinner and a movie with the wife or to go for a fun drive. i dont need a car to get around in the winter. only time i will be going out is to go grocery shopping or to go snowboarding and both situations i have to have my wife home anyway. this is not my first maine winter i grew up here. my main reason for all this is i cant justify spending money on snow tires when i will never drive the car in the winter.

i would have bought this car wether i stayed in south carolina or moved to kentucky or still moved here. i bought the car for the awd handling on the pavment not the snow and the overall performance. now down the road in a few years if i have some extra money yeah maybe ill buy some rims and winter tires for now but i can justify spending money on winter tires when i still want to go stage 2 and i just bought a new home that i want to renovate

as far as the depreciation goes i have never understood that reasoning. i have no plans to sell the car before its payed off or even after that so to me it dosent matter what the blue book value on it is. i dont see how a car not being driven can depreciate that much. im not gonan force myself to drive it in bad conditions just because im making payments on it
