ReZPunk's thread got me thinkin, anyone have any tiny little eateries that one would usually pass by, but the food is just utterly fantastic?

La Bodega Latina in Portland, on Congress up near MMC...awesome. It's Caribbean food, and most people probably start running as they walk by the place due to who can usually be seen hanging out around there, but I definately suggest stopping in sometime for some good eats.

Anyone else?

If you are looking for spicy goodness tu casa and the loco polo are both on washington near Sillys and have amazing authentic food. Bruces Burritos in Yarmouth on rt1 is also awesome.

HA. i know exactly where that is. and i have given it a second look, but not in a good way, maybe i'll check it out sometime soon.

BBQ Bobs in Bethel, its a small camper with a BIG smoker, best bbq beef brisket this side of the the of the mason dixon line. his pulled pork is retarded good. makes all the others in maine seem bland.

right across from the Irving in Bethel. pink camper. go there while at NEFR, you will not be disappointed, his BBQ beans and Cole Slaw are incredible too.

this IS the same BBQ Bob that used to be in Portland over near the 7-11 on the eastern.

Boynton-McKay Food Co, downtown Camden. It's in an old historic drugstore, complete with real soda fountain and groovy pressed tin ceilings. delectable daily specials but for the real blast of boynton-mckay goodness any time of day, just go straight for the Skillet Breakfast.

BBQ Bobs is soooo goood. I stop on the way back from The River. Theres also a place in Bryant Pond, the Feeding Frenzy, that has really good natrual/organic snacks and stuff. yumm

Bruce's is great! Very alternative as far as Mexican food goes, though. It's also easy to eat vegetarian there

Two places:

If you're on a date trying to impress someone and have a little extra money to spend on dinner, go to Walter's on Exchange St in Portland. The food is AMAZING and you'll never leave regretting the bill.

If you like Asian food ... Veranda Thai on Veranda St, just off of Washington Ave in Portland. This is the best Thai/Vietnamese I have EVER had and after eating here I haven't been able to enjoy any other Thai type restaurant. Food is always fresh, prepared when ordered. Any veggies in your meal will be cooked, but not soggy. Their lunch prices are pretty incredible as well ... for an appetizer, soup, and a meal off the lunch portion on the menu, it'll only run you $7 - 8 ... and they're good sized portions.Their first review got them 4.5/5 stars.

I've heard Walter's is very good, haven't had the chance to try it. I do like David's though, in monument square

Saeng thai on congress and st. johns is really good too, mekong thai on forest ave is really good also, haha, funny thing is i know the owners of those two places..... if you like japanese food with hibachi style cooking either go to fuji or sho gun, sho gun don't have sushi but the chief's and drinks there are great.....

I used to go to Mekong before Veranda opened and no offense, but I don't feel they compare. The owner of Veranda used to be a chef over at Mekong
