Can anyone tell me on average, how long[mileage] could one expect to run a well maintained, never abused, simple stage 2, 06 wrx 2.5 engine/tranny without problems?? Is there a point when stuff starts too s$#t the bed??

Ive seen rex's for sale at the 30k mark but figured it was a warentee[or lack there of] issue.....Lately tho...

Have started to see a rash of older cars coming up for sale and it made me wonder why?? that's all.

with decent care, driven with mechanical sympathy, 100k+++. RexPunk's 225k+ bugeye Rex runs great despite the mileage. He's just taken good car of the car mechanically, driven with some sympathy (tho def NOT babied) and fixed stuff that needed fixing BEFORE it failed instead of afterwards when a failure takes out other expensive stuff.

lack of above: it'll go till something blows, then yer screwed.

lots depends on what you see as "catastrophe" is a new $500 clutch at 107k enough to make you want to dump the car? long term owners see stuff like clutches, brakes, and water pumps turbos etc as replaceable parts, not huge problems. you replace wiper blades or tires when they wear out, so why not other more important stuff.

I've seen a disturbing/annoying trend on MS lately...ppl continue to drive cars with sick motors, bent control arms, smoky turbos etc, I guess because they dont want to spend $$ to fix stuff till it's "really bad" Then when the car siimply wont start or go by itself any more, they try to fix as little as possible. that approach is all backwards

^service n "take care of yer Subie" rant off^

Late in the day for mental gymnastics but ill try..To me,the line to be crossed is this.Averaged out over 12 months, how much does it cost in repairs to keep your car on the road? if the repair cost[on avg] is less then the cost of a car payment,Id REPAIR the car....Using a nice round car payment number of 250$ per month[real life is closer to 500] x 12 months=3000.$.....Sooo it appears [as long as you "like" the car you have]that repairing a problem will usualy be cheaper in the long run then ditching the problem for something new........The best plan would be to start new,pay off the car loan as quick as possible, once paid off, bank that"extra" car payment money for future repair's and save to pay cash for the next one.......

My 06 has aprox 23k mileage put on her since the day i picked her up with 17 miles

except for the wife ive put on every mile, had evergreen factory service dept do everthing from maintenance to mods, guess ill stop dreaming of STI's and greener pasture's and just keep her forever.Atleast until i reach a midlife crisis and trade for a vette........wzrd/out

Man, I wish I used as little on the ODO as you wzrd. My car turned 1 year old 2 weeks ago. Picked it up with 87 miles on it, still in packing materials somewhat. Now it has almost 26,000!!!!! Runs like a champ! Only issues have been cosmetic in nature and due to the poor parking habbits of others. Grrrrr...

Subarus last forever. Follow FSM or get dealer serviced and use OEM parts and it will last literally forever. I have a 96 Lx 2.2 with 300k auto original engine and trans and 180k 02 WRX.

Paul, your engine is just broken in with such low miles. At that rate it will be another 12 years before you hit 100k

once ive got enough money for the replacment of 6 speed tranny and a cosworth engine ill go a little harder on her.
