How to bleed a clutch

Anyone know what the proper procedure is to bleed a Subaru hydraulic clutch? A link would be nice if anyone knows of a write up.

just like bleeding brakes....pump pump pump hold, open bleeder, release fluid or air, close bleeder , repeat until no air is visbile squirting from bleeder....don't let master go dry or you have to start over......its really simple and will need a buddy.

Matt is right as far as the basic procedure, but know that bleeding suby hyud clutches can be like dealing with demons.

the clutch hyd system is very sensitive to getting even ONE bubble in the lines.

bleeder valve itself is very prone to letting bubbles get into system around the threads...you'd think it's either ON or OFF but ooh no, there's a big sortakinda zone inbetween....helps a lot to apply some teflon sealing tape to threads on bleeder valve.

I've bled a bunch of hydro clutches, and two subaru ones. The subaru ones are a pita.

A few important things. Don't get happy about pumping the clutch! That just agitates the fluid an gets bubbles in it. Bad.

Also, I found closing the bleeder as soon as possible after fluid stops coming out, or just a tad bit before helps from getting air back in the system.

And that reservoir doesn't hold very much. Enough for a few pumps. It empties out surprisingly quick.

Make sure the lines aren't leaking, especially the banjo end. If you have to bleed it, it's because air is getting in some how. Bleeding it is a temporary fix unless you fix the problem.

So when do you want to bleed mine Chris?! Lol I think mine is just slightly off from the tranny swap. Not positive, but want to make sure.

Whenever. This weekend would be fine. We can adjust it too. Never done it, but read how in the service manual. Doesn't sound terrible.

Sweet. Adjusting is all it probably needs. I have a couple other things to install too, but I'm scared Hehe

I just recently replaced the slave cylinder in mine. It's very easy to do. Just pump the pedal until it becomes firm to press, bleed, pump, bleed, etc. Piece of cake.
