Hydro Locked the subaru?

Hey Guys!

Iv'e been gone for awhile on a trip to california for a photography class, and i just got back yesterday. I was pretty pumped to get back into the WRX after seeing some pretty nasty cars out west plus it always feels like a rocket ship getting into it after awhile. It was raining pretty hard today and i was going threw town and the road was pretty flooded and with the past rain storms it was never that deep, so i drove threw it pretty slow, i was just going to see a friend and then the car started so smoke and sputter (sound) not feel. So i got out of the puddle and shut it down. called triple A and had it towed to home. 2 miles. lots deeper then i thought...... the puddle never been this deep befor. i waited about 3 hour or so and turned it over by hand on the crank shaft and heard the water......

then i tryed to turn it over with the key it didn't turn the first time. it was about the theird time it started and sat there at an idle pumping white smoke out the tail. i let it run for about 15min or so. then i drained the Oil out. Tommaorw ill get some oil and a filter and a air filter and put that in and start it up and let it idle for a bit more. Im not to sure its "Hydrolocked" because it turns over and idles (with of course minor sputters) not a rough idle at all, but if there is lot of water in there doesn't it have to pump up threw the turbo? and i feel that would be bad for the turbo.

anyone have any suggestions?

Im letting it sit tonight after draining the Oil should i remove the plugs and crank it over to spit the water out? its a lot of work but if i have to, i have to. I don't feel right letting it sit tonight just because i don't want it to rest inside, because i have no doubt it was salty water....

Its quite frustrating after the last engine problems. i might buy a lifted jeep and leave subarus alone, i never had good luck with them.

Kinda to late now probably... But when I get outboards full of water and don't have the time to fix them I put some oil in the cylinders and turn them over to keep from rusting.

if it was hydrolocked the motor would NOT turn over at all

sounds like you sucked some h2o into the intake (not sure what you got for intake) which explains sputtering and white smoke

let it run and idle a while, the water should work its way thru and things will be ok. depending on your intake filter, you might blow that out with some air to dry it a bit before startup--pull filter and blow air from inside filter to outside

stock intake is very resistant to this issue, aftermarket ones are prone to slurping in the water and causing probs like you encountered

Thanks Dave, did just that. changed the oil and took it round the block. going to change it again. I have a good feeling it will be all ok! How about are photoshoot?

I was in water with mine the other night up to the body line with a canoe on the roof. No water but I'm running a stock intake.

Hey thank you for the help the other night, trying to figure it out!
