I totaled my legacy...

Ill find out for sure monday when an insurance adjuster goes to look at it, but im pretty sure its a total loss.

Im going to get another subaru, that's for sure. I just dont know what.

Anything turbo is out of the question, with the hike in insurance premiums im undoubtadly about to face.. Im not going to be able to afford to shell out more $ for turbo fun unfortunately :/

Im confident in saying ive narrowed my choices to an 05-09 outback sedan or wagon, or a forester. Im looking for something with higher ride height and some offroad-ability. I love to camp/hunt/fish in secluded places often down trails or logging roads so gearing would preferably have to be lower than my legacys

5 SPEED IS A MUST!!

Im looking for input/advice on buying my next subaru, and ill explain what happened in my members journal if your interested. Please dont clog this thread with "what happened" or "learn to drive" comments

Thank you. Im sure with your guys/gals knowledge of subarus, and a healthy amount of googling ill he able to find a car that suits me perfectly

I'd avoid anything Legacy or Outback. They are the most problematic of the Subarus and they don't feel as connected to the ground and driver as the Imprezas and Foresters do.

Im looking to spend between 10 and 15k. that's including tax/title/dealers fee.

Ive heard some foresters are harder to lift than others, due to their subframes or something. Lifting the new subaru is going to be one of the first mods I do along with a/t tires, flaps, and offroad lights. which generation is the easiest to lift (2")

Im also curious about low range and all that cool stuff. My legacy was geared a bit too high to really offroad without smoking the clutch or going way too fast for comfort. How do the foresters compare?

there was a JDM trans for the EJ motors with high/low range. I dont remember what model it came from, im guessing legacy, but you might want to look into that for your future car...

I envision plenty of google time and subaru messageboard trolling in my next few days. Ill keep that in kind and find out what the deal is.

Forester with some lift sounds like it would be the best for you. They are lighter than Legacys which is good, and it's easy to put some lift on. I'm not sure what you're talking about with the subframe thing. Foresters have lift blocks from the factory, which is good. As for the dual range trans, we didn't get those in the states. Some European models got them, Foresters I know got them, and I believe Legacys too.It cost over 2000 to get one of those transmissions imported, and you have to get someone who is willing to do all the leg work for you.

^That too, if you plan on much off roading, auto is the way to go. The older ones the 5 spd dual range was the answer, but the newer ones are much better with the auto.

Thanks for the input. My legacy was lifted, could I swap it to a foz? Mabey with different tophats? Im gonna update my journal right meoww

you could always buy my outback xt from hell hehe already lifted and motor was just redone with a sti shortblock and its a 5spd

you could see what you would pay before you rule it out lol

its when it has sti wrx or gt that they start wanting to jack up insurance lol not xt cause it doesn't cost me anymore to insure a xt then it does a 2.5x

the WRX wagon is even quite a bit less to insure. Call your insurance company with the VIN and they will tell you the rate. That is what I do with every car I buy.
