Well, my fraternity is the one who's losing their house in Gorham (maybe you've caught it on the news lately), and because I'm now on the Alumni Council that's trying to keep the bunch of asshats from running the chapter into the ground, WCSH-6 wanted to interview me about the situation.

I'm sure it'll be flattering. I'm sure I won't be misquoted. I'm sure my comments will keep the good people of Maine from assuming that all fraternities are just "Animal House" wannabes.

Rrrright.

I missed how this all started, just been hearing about it recently. Any background reading info?

Also, my former roomate is doin' his internship at WCSH 6, I'll see if he knows anything about how they're spinning it.

Is your former roommate the guy they just hired from his 207 internship?

Background reading goes like this:

1993 - chapter starts, we begin renting a house at 27 Preble Street in Gorham soon thereafter

2003 - the chapter feels it's smart to buy the house instead of renting, but a bank won't finance the purchase (because the house is a pile). We enter into an "owner-financed" purchase arrangement, and the financial whiz kids that oversaw the transaction didn't know about setting up escrows.

2005 or 2006 - due to dwindling numbers living in the house, we're not paying as much into the accounts as we used to, and we miss our first tax payment (I'm told)

Fast-forward to the present - the guys have missed enough tax payments to have the town take the house.

That's pretty much it; if folks had been a little more savvy, we might not be in this pickle.

I'm sure my comments will keep the good people of Maine from assuming that all fraternities are just "Animal House" wannabes.

Nobody is as cool as "Animal House".
