impreza 2.5 exhaust issues

i just put on an Apex-i N1 muffler on my 98 impreza 2.5rs..2nd muffler ive tried and i like this one .did some other exhaust work too and my resonator was shot so i took that out. BUT now above around 3.5 4 grand i get this TERRIBLE ricey tone while reving up and down.

Should I put a resonator back in? or what could be causing this terrible honda noise? oh yeah the other muffler by Pilot did the same thing

are you certain there's enough clearance betwen the new exhaust bits and things like your heat shields, rear diff subframe, exhaust hangers etc?

if noise is not caused by physical interference, it's probably a bad resonance int he piping. so yes, resonator would probly help. also, going from stock 2.5 exhaust (1.75 or 2") to 3" stuff designed for turbo applications = bad rice noisemaker

 
it is a kind of buzzing sound and ill check the spacing issues, and its all stock diameter piping and the apexi has a 2 1/4" inlet 4 inch outlet (kinda overkill i say)

 
I suggest not only checking to see if heat shields are hitting exhaust, but also check for broken/rusted heatshields at the bolts that attach shields to body of car.

Mine had a spot or two. Still have one or two intermittent rattles.

Bend the shields away from where they are loose.

 
i checked all the heat shields its not quite a rattle but a noise from the exhaust itself:iam:

 
Add a 2.5" glasspack to the midpipe. Works as a resonator, smooths it out. I had the same problem with the cheap ebay exhaust on my LGT.

 
I've heard of people doing that didn't know it worked, thanks for the info I'll try it for sure
