Installing AUX-IN jack in Tribecas

Throwing this up for anyone who's thinking about a 'Beca, but turned off by the lack of AUX jack in the selected trim level. Mine's an '06, and they hadn't heard of fancy things like "iPods" back then.

Pulling together the parts this week, and will cut into the pig once wifey can handle the thought of me cutting into her new whip.

I assume you did your own in your Hawkeye, right? I wanted to do this with my dad's Murano but I haven't had time to pull his dash apart, and I'm not sure if it even has leads for an axillary input.

When do you think you'll be doing it to the Tribeca?

I didn't have to do it in mine, actually - by 2007 the WRX wagon came with it standard. The year before, however, the 'Beca did not. Once you have one of these in your car, you'll never want to own a car without at least this, and preferably with a real iPod interface. Wifey rented a few cars this fall with actual USB connections in them that allowed the iPod to be controlled through the steering wheel controls.

This AUX install won't do anything but allow me to get the audio into the factory system - but the upside of not having to use one of those FM modulators (iPod battery drainers) is a big one.

I may be doing it as early as next Saturday, but again - it's dependant on getting the green light from the boss to cut up her new car

Why? Interested in pulling apart a dashboard?

I don't actually own an ipod. I bought a used one from my friend (Video 30gb) and I used it for like two weeks. Then I went on an airplane with it, and the next night when I charged it, it melted itself.

I think I need to replace the battery, along with the melted clickwheel (it still works, its just ugly and the center button is disformed). I usually just stash my Creative Zen (hooked up through cassette adapter) in the cupholder and reach down to change songs.

I never did find out if my dad's stereo has any extra inputs. Best case scenario is that there are RCA headers or a 3.5mm jack back there, but if I figured out how to splice in the audio wires like in the guide you posted, I could do that too.
