so i just got this subaru rs and the interior panels have been painted red...there starting to pull up in spots from wear and it just looks bad......anyone have any ideas on how to go about either removing the paint all together in hopes the underside is ok or should i pick a more subtle color and re spary?????

i would just replace the pieces you would be better off with some used pieces from any 98-01 impreza interior

Maybe acetone, or brake clean would probably work. Good call on removing it!!

Haha Gabe beat me to it

brake clean usually eats plastic

Painting will probably be the less expensive route. Check the PART-OUT section on NASIOC if you want OEM. I found some pieces there, reasonably priced.

Actually, now that I think of it, you may need to check RS25.com.

You could allways use thinner and water it down to help remove or soften it and peel it off by hand. Do not sand it. Its plactic and will never been the same. Then pick up some dye not paint and re-dye it. Its cheap and fast and will be cheaper. if it dosn't work or you don't like it then look at replacing it. The dye seeks into the plastic and is a more stronger and durable source of paint. And it works well. PM me and i can even offer to do it for you.

i think ill attempt the paint thinner approach and see what happens. there are a lot of panels that need to be taken off so ill just start small and go from there, if it doesn't work ill try replacing them, junkyard or something...ill post some pics of my before and the after....its ugly

I am going ot have to agree with Dan and Gabe on this one. Either re-paint it or replace it. Stripping paint on wood and metal is hard enough let alone trying to remove it from plastic and softer materials.

its a coupe. i got some paint thinner from work today and popped out the drivers side air vent next to the window. put a little on a shop rag and rubbed it a bit and to my surprise it came right off. the center console and the window trim are a lot thicker so im not sure how thatll work but like i said ill take pics and ill go from there. ill be at the meet on wednesday so youll get a better view then if you go.....thanks guys
