WTF? The guy in the house behind me put a light on his garage that I swear is bright enough to cook hotdogs. WTF? Oh, and not only did he just put it on his garage, he put it on a 6' Pole ABOVE his garage. it lights up all of friggin' South Portland! Brighter than the CMP streetlights!?!?! Have to wear cookiein' sunglasses to bed.

Honestly, it's the kind of light that you would see on a commerical property, not in a residential area. People typically put a motion sensing flood lamp on their garage... I dont' need night lights in my house anymore. It shines in or reflects in just about every window.

 
I'm gonna talk to the dude tomorrow. He's pretty crafty. I'm gonna see if he'll put a blocker on my side so it doesn't shine right into my bedroom, and my daughters bedroom, and my downstairs bathroom, and my kitchen, and my dining room and my porch.

 
maybe an anonymous letter in his mail box asking him not to use it when hes not in the driveway, and if that doesn't work, a disturbing the peace complaint to the police might get you what you want.

 
I'm gonna try the "politely talk to teh guy" method and see where that gets me. I can fully understand wanting a light on the garage. I'd have one on my garage if it weren't for teh nice amber CMP street light out front. But this bright white false sun hanging 6' above his garage roofline is a bit much.

it's like one of these... a mercury vapor light...

Good luck. If you get no where you can put up very tall solar panels that block his light and power your house at the same time.

 
i thought about putting mirrors all over teh back of my house to reflect it back onto his porch but I like the solar panel idea.

 
just make sure the mirrors focus the light right into his windows.

Get some concave ones - you can have some fun burning "messages" into his lawn while he sleeps. +1 for convincing him they're messages from God. +2 for getting him to ACT on those messages.

 
hehehe... Mrs Mikebike talked to him before I got home and he was cool about it. He put a screen in the lamp which blocks some of the light... we stilll see the big glowing light but the spread of the light doesn't penetrate every room in the house anymore.

It's nice to be nice.... all you bb gun people stand down...
