k well im having a discussion on another board about a kid who put 10k into a saturn ( shwown above) that was bought for 2k. i said its not a car worth puttign that kind of money into. it is a horribel looking car to start with and there are many other great options out there were u can have a very fast cheap car that looks good also. for example a early 90's mr2.

if you guys had 2k to buy a car and 10 to mod it what would you go for to get a combo of looks a speed? im gonna say subaru is excluded because obviously we all like subies here

yeah that's pretty much a huge waste of time, resources, and money. He'll be lucky if he can get 2k for it when he's done putting that much into. If you just want to make front tires spin all day like this lad, any stupid fast honda setup can be done on the c-h-e-a-p.

yeah why not? anything is possible just add time and money.

there were guys making 300+ all day long in their saturns a few years ago. might be harder now with the company being belly up. imagine some of the parts sites are still up tho.

i raced a saturn with my brother in a rallycross series and did quite well for ourselves. even beating a few subarus along the way.

just because somebody CAN do something, that doesn't mean they should

if the kid loves saturns, then great. otherwise why bother?

he could take that $12k and buy a nice used WRX that actually starts every morning...daily driver instead of daily tuner

This. There is a point in which you cross the line where you have over invested in your platform.

Example: Say you like drag racing and buy a geo metro to drag race. You can throw all your money at a geo metro trying to catch top fuel dragsters, but at the end of the day a geo metro is only going to go so fast for what you invested.

As for this Saturn, I wouldn't buy it, but hey if it makes the kid happy and he knows what his money could have otherwise gotten him, sure whatever.

I'd buy a 944 Turbo for 6k and put the rest to upgrades you'll be at. 350 whp and a gorgeous well balanced car

Designed in 1989 and began production in 1991. NEVER ONCE was anything on those S-models ever upgraded, redesigned, improved until 2002 when the s-models was dropped. All they ever did was change the plastic bits on the outside.

You can't get S-car parts any more. They stopped making s-cars in 2002, and stopped making s-car parts in 2002. If you wanted something factory specific, like a diff for the trans, you are screwed..all gone.

If you'd like I can tell you everything that's going to go wrong with that car. 8 years or Saturns under my belt. These days the S-cars are good for only one thing...those crazy YouTube videos of someone driving some old obscure relic into a snow plow, or off the pier, or jumping it off into the woods while holding a beer, or testing your new F-350 4x4 lift kit.

I vote no, I'm not a saturn fan at all, and i agree they could have gotten something a lot better than that.

if it is the car im thinking of and the kid im thinking of i went to high school with him. And yes they can be very fast since i know what this kid is planning on it will be faster than your stock sti just sayin

Inski's point about lack of parts support would be the clincher for me. saturns not only have serious OEM parts supply issues, there is very limited aftermarket support as well. so evidently the Saturn owner in question is in that 15% of the poll that didn't hate the S car, so if he's crazy about his satty so be it....but Caveat Emptor x47.

the beauty of cars like E30 Bmw, Miata, 944, s13, focus, GC subie etc is that not only is the base car fun and respectable in stock form, there is tons of speed parts to bolt on easily that make a real difference--both in looks and performance. you end up with a distinctive car that's well admired without being weird...and the car is actually worth something when it's time to move on to another project.

you missing the whole point i dont care if its faster. you can make a gremlin faster than my car its still a ugly boring car. it isntall abotu speed with cars you need a balance of looks and performance. ok he could beat me but i wouldnt be able to stop laughing the whole at how much he invested in the car to make it that fast. i just dont get why u dotn start with a bette rlookign platform to invest in. not one person sees a early 2000 saturn 4 door sedan and goes dam look at that car that's sweet

I gotta say no. But hell, even my car is probably not worth the money I have dumped into it.

but you have a good lookign car to start with. my thign wasent is it worth the money because unless u r restoring a classic car dumping monye into a car isn't an investment it was is a car that looks liek that worth spending any money on at all
