Hey guys, I just changed both o2 sensors on my car and thought I took care of my CEL problem.....well I was wrong. im still getting the code "P0420" which is the rear sensor right???? After i changed both sensors.....i went from 350 miles a tank down to 250!!! NOT GOOD!! Just seeing if that code is for the rear one and what may be the culprit. I think it could be possible that i got defective sensor from my work.....but i want to see what else it could be first.

You are running premium right?? If the code is still there, it could be a clogged cat, or just dirty. Or you could have gotten some really crappy gas.

p0420 is usually a "catalyst efficiency" fault, which im sorry to say indicates that your cat is not working correctly due to it being bad or engine not running well enough for it to clean up your exhaust correctly.

^^^^ I agree. Cutting out the cats on my outback soon cause its always got a cat fault and or rear o2 in it.

Well i got a high flow cat....so your saying just take out the rear sensor and it would fix the problem? wouldnt that make my car run crappy?

doesn't matter. If he is running a catless uppipe or not. I have no cats period on my car. I have headers, catless uppipe, catless downpipe, and running my race pipe and throw no codes.

I know my high flow cat I have is not perfect. When I was at Magnaflow in CA putting one of our machines in there. I talked to one of the designers for the exhaust. He informed me when they make high flow cats they are not designed to see High temp high boost use. Hence, mine only has like 3k miles on it and the insides are starting to fall apart.

The downside is Modified Mag did a test and found you actually loose horsepower when swithing from a race pipe to a high flow cat. They also tested a cat with the guts beat out of it and found that you actually loose even more horsepower compated to that of a cat that is still in tact. They said it must have something to do with the flow. When you beat the cat out it creates a big wall for the exhaust. Only way to do it correct is beat the cat out then basicly "sleeve" the gutted cat with a stright pipe then weld to make the gasses flow though so it doest hit on either side of the cat where there is no pipe.

But aren't you running a different map/tune?

On the stock map, it will most definitely throw a code...

Yea, I have mine tuned.....Ill try to put another sensor in there to see if that fixes it....if not oh well. I know people to get me a sticker who don't use the OBDII scanner.
