just bought my first WRX

like literally two hours ago

got it very cheap, needs top end rebuild (oil seal on old turbo blew carbon is caked all over the valves they were stuck open) it did come with a used OEM turbo

id like too get it moderately above stock performance, nothing crazy

im only 18 i do not have much money, but my father owns an engine machining shop so theirs my advantage

whats the best way to go to get some decent performance cheap?

i found a V39 STI turbo for 350$. but can i run that turbo on stock internals?

im also very interested in the cobb accessport

if i sell my eclipse i should have around 1500 too mess around with

any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appriciated!

Pics Please.. And welcome to the club.. There is far more you should do to your car before you think about a turbo.. If you want some more performance go stage 2.. Downpipe, Catback, up-pipe, drop in filter.. Also think about suspensions, Perrin Sway bar's ect.. To run that turbo you would also need STI intercooler, Pinks Injectors, bigger fuel pump, upgraded Boost Control solenoid, or a MBC.

 
I have upgraded injectors and an egt gauge all things you will need if you plan going past stage 2 for sale rigth now. very cheap!!

If your after the accessport go their website and they give you a breakdown of modifications that makes each car its individual stage

General rule of thumb, stage 1 and 2 are well defined when it comes to the subaru community.

Stage 1 = ECU reflash, Panel intake filter

Stage 2 = downpipe, exhaust, ecu flash.

Stage 3 is where it gets sketchy, some people say turbo, some people say other stuff, it's not as clearly defined as 1 and 2.

In general the "stage" stuff is stupid as hell and really dumb to get obsessed with, gimmicky need for speed terms based in nothing. Saying stage 1 and 2 is fine because everyone knows what it is; it's a concrete idea. Once you start modding beyond that, "stages" is just gimmick talk.

Yo dawg i got a stage 3 suspension setup, stage 2 brakes, stage 40 motor with stage 1 tires, etc etc, you get the idea.
