Key Bank - Final Straw

Ok I'm all done with key bank. After being with them for 5 years now its time to move on to a better bank.

Why you ask?

Well ho wabout shitty customer service, outrageous fees and a general feeling of taking it in the rear.

Granted some have been from my own errors, but they never budge ($35.00 fee for a $0.07 over draft!!).

But the final straw happened today.

I get a call saying im $43 over my limit, big "d'oh" on my part but no big deal, right?

Wrong!

I go online to pay and low an behold I cannot acess MY credit account? ??? ???

So I call up customer service and after waiting 10 mins I finally get a human who explains to me that I cannot access my account to make payments until I square up my balance!!

WTF!!!

But it gets worse. I ask to pay by phone and they say its going to be $14.99 to make a payment on the phone!!

WTF x2!!

I could mail a payment but that take a week or so and I'd still be racking up fees until its cleared up!

So they truly have me over a barrel, but I think I have an ace up my sleeve so I as to speak to a manager/supervisor whatever.

Nope! I can't speak to a manager until I clear up my account!!!!!

Serious bullshit right there.

So I say fudge it and pay the $14.99 so I can be forwarded to a supervisor to try to get out of the $14.99. Well no luck again no one is available.

So time of zero out my balances and withdraw all my money from that bank.

sounds like a cell phone company.

now that you're all squared away you should call up and speak to one of those elusive managers and tell them that you're going to close the account because of all this, but you'lll stay if they take away the fees. once they take off the fees, close the account anyway

As manager of a small town bank, my wife will usually call someone overdrawn and give them till end of day to fix. Although if someone is constantly over she will impose fees. That usually gets the message through.

It might be worth looking into overdraft protection where they take money from savings acct to cover checking.

When I moved up here I stopped at Key Bank to get info on opening an account. The person behind the counter had no clue on what info to give me and all of the people who could help were out to lunch. That told me to stay away. Poor staffing, poor training...

So I went to TD Banknorth (aka Titty Banknorth). I've been VERY pleased with them. Easy account access, easy branch access (the one in Mill Creek Shaws is open late/weekends), friendly peeps. When my debit card number was swiped they noticed it before I did and called and also followed up until it was cleared.

There are Titty Banknorth ATM's all over the place too which is helpful.

Bank fees are unavoidable and interest rates suck.

Oh, and as a bonus... when I opened my TD Banknorth checking I got a free cooler with built in FM radio! Neat!

Do you really think that BoA won't tag you for overdrafts, intentional or unintentional?

Ahem, welcome out from under your once-idylllic small-town rock.

Overdraw your account without setting up overdraft protection ahead of time = Pay pay pay.

get used to it. doesn't matter who the bank is, pay pay pay.

This I know.

Piss-poor customer service is my beef.

the problem with credit unions is that they typically have no widespread ATM access. Some of them have a CU24 debit card, and some ATMs take them, but its a rare joining.

i went with a credit union (5 county) for my loan and savings account, but kept my bank of america account for checking and ATM usage. i'm quite pleased with BoA, although it seems like TD Banknorth has more ATMs, but that may just be the grass seeming greener on the other side.

We have a TD Banknorth ATM in the office so it's quite convenient for me... but most of the time I just get cash when i'm at Hannaford or wherever and do a debit card purchase by selecting the cash back option. That way you avoid ATM fees for non-(enter your bank here) ATM usage.

Plus you might get some good free swag when you open your account!!!!

For a savings account, you should really use ING Direct online... best rate on a savings account around. If I refer you to ING we'll both get $25 deposited into our accounts!!!

i use ING for my retirement account, they seem like well educated people, unlike the Fleet people apparently.

I switched from Key Bank to TD Banknorth (formerly Peoples) a couple of years ago,and they've been better.

I used to be a member of Navy Federal Credit Union because of my dad,but the closest branch is in Maryland or something.I'm actually looking to join a local credit union as we speak.

I have accounts at Key, TD Banknorth, and Bank of America. Key is by FAR the worst one of the 3...they charge you to make a deposit through one of their tellers.... WTF. BOA has the "rounding up" checking account which is kinda cool if you are like me and use debit card for EVERYTHING. You would be suprised how fast it adds up. My wife and I have joint checking through TD banknorth and they basically have no fees either. If you want the number of a friend of mine who is a manager at Key, let me know. She has taken care of many issues for me.. ( and she's a SMOKING hot twin too:) PM me if you need her info (Key bank business only please perverts
