So, this weekend starts my first all-out restoration process of my 99 legacy 2.5 gt.
So much to do on it, but once it's done, it'll be restored to its former glory.
Tomorrow i start by replacing the rear passenger brake pads and caliper.
And the drivers side rear parking brake cable.
after that, I'll attempt to repair the clockspring.
the list of repairs needed is long, but i'm determined, she'll be great once again.
Here's what I will be working on in the coming months:
Rust repair: both rear fenders, both rear areas at the bottom of the doors.
front passenger side door (possibly replace)
Paint
Clock spring -Done
one or more of the abs sensors.
drivers side parking brake cable, -Done
some sort of noise from the transmission.
fog lights -Done
radio - Done
tires
figure out the vacuum hose setup and reroute accordingly - not necessary with the 2.5 soon to be in.
replace the instrument cluster lights and change the blue covered bulbs off for red ones to match the car.
figure out why the cig lighter outlet doesn't work...
And for the stuff i would like to do, eventually:
replace transmission, drive shaft, and rear diff from an outback or sti to the gt.
replace seats with better leather ones, as mine have worn down over the past decade.
replace the stock intake with a k&n setup
replace exhaust with a stainless aftermarket one.
more wood grain in there, I really like the red/cherry wood grain that subaru has in some of their legacys and foresters.
restore the gold rims that came stock on it.
full paint job.
I doubt i'll be able to get to all of it, due to time and budget constraints, but still, She will shine once again, that is for certain.
I'll post pics of the progress and repairs.
Edit: Found a 2.5 from a 99 outback that i'm going to do the hg in and slap it into the leggy.
going to take the current 2.2 and throw it into a 98 forester i just picked up.
should be a fun filled summer.
