I thought "this video sucks".. until realizing... odds ten to 1 and beyond.. it is every freakin oe part untouched since.. the newest date of 1990...

now they are adding the todays gadgets (I got the same blue silicone from ebay for a carb).

no double fire, no backfire..open pipe turbo. I bet he could drive down the road and not get stopped for loud.

Yeah, stock engine with a newer intercooler. Just had no exhaust past the cat. But the old turbo Subarus were junk!! Not a lot of power, and just terribly unreliable, even worse than the regular EA82

 
i had no idea subarus of that age had a intercooler setup like the newer ones. my uncle used to have turbo GL's, but i never got to see under the hood

 
They didn't have an intercooler. That is a newer one modded to fit. It s suggested when running those older ones to add an intercooler to try to keep the engine temps down a bit, because they are so easy to over heat

but back when when subaru originally started rallying, absolutely nobody took them seriously. other rally teams were like, "WTF? you guys going to race in a veterinarian's car??!!" the DL based rally cars were an unmitigated joke. Then the early Leggy cars started to do better, and subaru told Prodrive they had to win in the big leagues with the leg before they'd get the new Impreza. Once McRae won in NZ with the Leg, they got the Impreza, dialed up the boost and everything was different.

Oh don't worry, you won't hear me bad mouthing the older Subarus. I'm sure I have had more of them than anyone else on this forum!! But there were some that had worse issues than others!!!
