Looking for a ej25 motor for my 2000 Impreza obrs

I may have lost the motor in my 2000 Impreza Outback Rally Sport. Im not sure how to tell what happened but it is making a ticking noise and it shakes violently. Someone said it was a motor bearing, others say its the lifters. A friends of mine said the timing can adjust easily after they are torqued to specifications. Im not sure what went wrong.

But I am now looking for a 2.5 liter motor to throw into it. I'm pretty sure its a sohc but im not 100% positive. Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jared

2000 outback sport came with a 2.2 motor, not the 2.5. I don't know if you wanted to put a 2.5 in it, or put another 2.2 into it.

I will have a my 2006 STI shortblock for sale pretty soon. She is going to need a rebuilt but the crank and rods should be good. You probably don't want to go this way cause you would need a tune but just throwing it out there.

he put a 2.5 in it a while ago, The car is at my house and i think it spun a crank bearing from the sounds its making :/

Oh, good to know. Just thought I'd make sure!

On a side note, ya know if it was a 2.2, there would be much less of a chance of something like that happening!! Just saying.....Haha

i would definitely look into that first one because its mine. i actually realized after i posted the ad that the timing belt tensioner is gone because the salvage motor didnt come with one so i had to swap it over. the belt was due for a service so i tossed it at the same time. if you bring a belt and tensioner then i'll install them for free, if not then i'll eventually buy a tensioner and new belt and raise the price $50 to cover the cost.

so while we have the engine out...Ive heard some things about using STI head gaskets to raise the compression...yes or no? bad or good? worth it? haven't heard much but NOBOOST told me about it when I had the RS

this engine has that, but its not to raise the compression on the SOHC models. its just because the the sti piece is all metal instead of the organic 3 layer of the original sohc gasket. the thickness is the same (its the 'thin' gasket). the DOHC engine uses the 'thick' gasket so using it in that engine will yield a CR increase.

i always use the sti gasket. its the same price anyway.

BTW, new belt and tensioner ~ $238 from EG
new gates belt from napa: $44. used tensioner: $20.

that works too

Im having someone in new hampshire do everything 4 me. I kinda want an engine that I can hear run and know more about, No offense. I am definitely doing sti gaskets tho. They guy might also just fix the motor. Im not sure but im still open for posts about 2.5 engines.. OH also, I hate the 2.2 it has no balls what so ever.
