One of these is currently stuck and stripped out (hex head bolt) in the rear diff of the Audi. Been under there for over a half hour cursing at it, but that's not working.

This one little bolt is keeping the pile of raisin from moving under its own power again. Anybody have any suggestions, or even better, wanna come remove it for me? Haha.

I miss Rallyguy...he would of fixed it by now... :sad5:

bernz-O-matic to the rescue

you vill noww taste der Red Wrench, stoopid audi peeace o sheet! (in governator's best deepthreatening voice)

if you heat it right, (angle flame away from rest of diff) you probly won't even heat de diff up much

get the bolt head cherry red, grab it with vise grips TIGHT, out she comes

you could try heating it up and putting a pipe wrench to it, or grinding 2 flats on it and making it fit an open ended wrench.

Off to sears I go.

There's just not enough room for a vice grip. It's a very small space, and it's recessed on 3 sides. :BangHead:

I do get to go pick up my tarmac wheels tomorry! Yay!

is there any way to get a grinder in there? i have had luck turning bolts into flat head screws in the past just grind then add heat. if not.....well get ahold of me if you r close i wouldent mind helping.

Not even close. I'll take a picture of it a little later so you guys can see why it was a pain to reach.

Just got back from sears with the bolt out set. *crosses fingers*

Yay! It worked.

And just when I thought my problems wre over...more rusticled bolts that refuse to come out...I just can't seem to catch a break with this thing.

Off to slowly hack away with the dremel...

Entropy Always Wins

Olde Audi Pilotes learn this de hard way.

you are not having old car probs, it's just a "lack of maintenance"

hee hee., easy for me to spend YOUR money on fixing busted stuff

You should of seen the poor thing when Craig and I picked it up in Rockport. It was very sad looking and sounding.

glad to hear you got the one out. with any older car you can save hours just by taking the time to prep your work pb-blaster the hell out of every thing and let it sit and when it seems like some thing is going to go wrong STOP and rethink it befor you break stuff. that is the diffrence between a parts changer and a tech. good luck man keep up the good fight

Most of the bolt heads have simply rusted apart. It's not a simple matter of spraying penetrant and the bolt will come out. Especially these allen head bolts, they've just been sitting under there for so long that there's nothing left to grab onto anymore.

*looks over at phone*

I'm sitting in the Jeep in the USM gorham parking lot right now, haha.

Edit: No worries mate. I've got someone out fiddling with the thing right now anyway. I should have it back up and running tonight.

$.02

Stripped Impreza parts car to bare shell this weekend. An electric impact

loosened all those rusty underside bolts that I otherwise would have busted off.

Another trick if you have room is to weld a bolt or nut onto the stripped one.

Either TIG or MIG will heat up the offending fastener in the process.

mild heat and a wax crayon will do the trick too.

heat up the bolt and touch it with a crayon, the wax will get sucked into the threads and act as a lube.

never believed untill i tried it
