Hey Guys,

I train Mixed Martial Arts at a place called The Academy of Mixed Martial Arts in Portland. It is a ton of fun, plus a great workout. I have lost around 100 pounds over the last year.

We do a lot of Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and boxing. Along with Crossfit, google it for more info. I mentioned it to Nate and he seemed interested so I just wanted to let you all know about it. If anyone is interested in trying it out, PM me and I can get you some free classes.

...i do something like that in my basement if anyone's interested.

My 50 year old dad is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He loves it and has something like 5 gold metals from the Pan Am championship in California, not only in the heavyweight class, but the unlimited as well, and recently this year the senior. He is in the best shape of his life and it's because of the extensive training. He was trained by Joe Moreria from Brazil. Here's a link to there place http://www.mainejiujitsu.com/ He has wanted me to get into it but I jut don't have the time really.

Yea im looking foward to this acctually. As soon as everything settles down for the momment with my car and moving and everything ill give you a call.

yeah nate and i talked about this, we're probably gonna start at the same time pretty soon. true test to see if my knee is actually healed

A lot of the guys cross train Akido for the throws, along with a lot of judo work and wrestling for take-downs. I guess that is why it is MMA, a little bit of everything.

I definitely prefer boxing/Muay Thai for real world applications, in a self defense situation boxing is going to be the win, it is just too dangerous in this world to take it to the ground unless you have to. If it does end up there though BJJ will definitly give you an upper hand.

On a side note we don't have any specials running for free months like I had mentioned to some of you, but I can still get you some free classes to check it out.
