Soo for 5 hours today, give or take a few minutes, i tried everything my little mind could think of to get this stupid effing balljoint out of the knuckle. As you might be thinking right about now, no success. Pounded, swore, chiseled, pounded, swore a lot more, chiseled a little, some more poundind, a little heat, more pounding, and a lot of nothing. So basically at this point, because i refuse to bring my rex to the shop for a dam balljoint im either looking for help removing it or a used spindle. Since i forgot to mention what im working on at the beginning of this post i might as well do it now... 03 wrx very stock at the moment, and a very loose lower driver side balljoint.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

You could take the whole arm off and take it to Napa and have them press it out. Not unless you have a hydraulic press handy around your place.

As a matter of fact i do have a hydraulic press in the garage. I'm a little unsure on how id press it out though??

Is it still bolted in the spindle itself?
At the moment it is due to the rex being my only vehicle. When i was trying to remove it i did take the bolt out of the spindle to remove the joint. As a matter of fact i had to drill out the old bolt and tap it because the whoever tried doing this before me broke the bolt and apparently said eff it and left it...

When you try to remove it, leave it bolted in the spindle. Remove the nut of the bottom of the ball joint, and then use a big hammer and hit the edge of the control arm down to break the grasp it has on the ball joint.

I use a slide hammer and/or air hammer to get it out. Get nasty wid it. You can't get on the back side to press it out.

I can get it out of the control arm easily enough. i just cant get the death grip the rust has made loose from the spindle. i didnt try the air hammer method which i probably should have thought of earlier.. i guess that's and idea for tomorrow. Do you just put the bit in the clevace i can see when the boot is off the ball joint?

ok then, leave nut on bottom, remove bolt from spindle and then beat on the control arm, that will pull it down and out of the spindle

get a good penetraing oil...pb blaster is the POOP and let it soak for awhile...if that ball joint doesn't fall out tomorrow id be surprised......
