More power or wishful thinking

A while back i put a cobb sf intake on my rex,The other day while takeing the car out for a spirited ride[not just putt-in round town] i seemed to notice an increase in hp/tq= power.:idk:The car felt like it was spooling up and pulling harder then i had remembered...Besides looking cool and sounding a bit more beastly, could i actualy be experienceing a slight increase in the hp due to the cars better breathing ?:iam:This was a seat of the pants observation btw

Chances are your gains are somewhat small, though quite possibly detectable on the buttdyno. The fact is, the more cool sounds a car makes when ripping through the rpm band the more exhilarating it feels.

I felt the same thing when I put my intake on, even more with my catback. I think it is mainly the car being able to more efficiantly move air. Less restriction and a shorter path all the turbo to spool a bit fast and therefore 'feel' more powerful. Plus you can't beat the sound.

Usually they will hurt performance though since instead of the nice cool air the stock system brings in your getting heated air from the engine bay. That being said the turbo does breathe easier so im not sure which wins out. It does help when its cooler out too.

actual powaH gain from a well fitted CAI typically runs in the 5% or less range

so best case scenario would be stock 227 hp x 1.05 = 238hp that's barely enough to detect w/butt dyno, although of course the sound adds another 10-15 whp!

you'd get more bang for the buck by removing weight from the car; 100 lbs out of the car ris like adding 10 hp

So if I was a fat dude, diet and exercise would be the best DIY performance mod?

You can see for yourself how much improved sound affects your brain, which has a direct connection to your butt, by making back to back runs with and without ear plugs

LDR driver John C has lost 50+ lbs since the last time we ran NEFR, Nigel is wikked worried about sharply increased velocities in sketchy backwoods situatuions!

Ive never been dyno'ed.But with all the cobb stuff on my ride, ill bet im closer to 300 hp then 200:D....Actually mabye it was the truck that was comeing head on and me getting real deap into the throttle [plus the loud noise]that made me feel as if i had gained something in the hp department:idk:I did have an extra passenger tho:iam:

if you think it goes good now...get a custom tune. what ever floats your boat...open source or pro tune with your cobb...it will be a world of difference. The graph below is of my car with my first two custom tunes. The lighter line is my first tune which netted me 225 HP and I think 260 tq. That was with a cobb tbe and the cobb sfi. The second graph the darker one was my second tune with above mods plus perrin TMIC and the cobb sfi box. and that netted me 241hp and almost 300 tq. So in my eyes it is more beneficial to have open source/cobb pro tune than just the cobb OTS maps. Oh well my .02. I will say tho when I had my exhaust and intake put on with the COBB OTS map I thought it was

but when I got tuned it was
