My Car's "Products"

N/A All The Way!!
So I did a little shopping to get my car all waxed-up for the summer time and picked up a couple other things for the paint. Here is what I came home with...and why.

1- Meguiar's Clay Bar Kit- Because the car is three years old, I live on a dirt road and I would like to give it a try

2- Meguiar's Caranuba Gold Class Paste Wax- Because the original Gold Class rocked..this should too

3- Meguiar's Swirl-X- Because I usually wash my car at the carwash bay...I know its not smart so leave me alone.

Yeah, I like the Meguair's products.

My question is: What should my plan of attack be? I have three products and I have experience using just one (the paste wax). Naturally, I'm going to wash the crap out of it first, but then what? Should I clay, swirl and then wax? That was my initial thought, but I know that if I do the clay bar correctly, its going to leave my car very vulnerable before waxing. The swirl-x is basically a mild polishing compound that is supposed to take care of some fine swirl marks I have from using the carwash bay. Please help....

1.) Wash your car like you normally would

2.) While your car is still wet, grab the quick detailer supplied with your clay bar and start using your clay bar in 2x2 foot sections. Keep your paint surface lubricated at all times! It can never have too much lubrication. Keep a steady up-and-down or side-to-side motion with your clay bar (NOT CIRCULAR!!!!), overlapping each stroke slightly.

3.) When you are finished clay barring, wash your car again like you normally would.

4.) Dry your car completely.

5.) This is when you would want to use the scratch-X. Find the problem spots and address them accordingly. If you are using a buffer you will get better results, but it's not necessary.

6.) Apply final carnauba wax. I would do at least 3 coats.

Their is your basic step-by-step process with those products

i'm doing all this joyous stuff tomorrow. and 3 coats of wax? my hands are killing me by the time i do it once. maybe that's why i've only done it once since i bought the car...

What do you do after this step? Do you just rub the stuff off with a dry cloth or do you rinse it off? The instructions on the side of the container for mine (old turtle-wax stuff) said to apply, then remove before it dried, but I couldn't get it all off so I had to rinse it before waxing.

spent all day on my car. between cleaning the trash out, vacuuming, wash, 3 coats of meguiars cleaner wax and cleaned all the windows. it only took 5 hours...

Haha my dad said I spent 6 hours outside yesterday, but I didn't check the time when I went out. I forgot to vacuum the trunk of the wagon yesterday so I did that today, as well as soaping the rubber cargo mat to remove oil/grease.

I can't get my power-washer to work any more...

^ did you drain it before winter? we forgot to drain the pump case on ours one winter and it froze and blew the case apart. bad stuff, and i miss the nifty rig

It worked all of Saturday morning for rinsing the car, then washing off the soap, then washing off some polish stuff. It wouldn't work in the afternoon though, the pump just never ran. It was really tough to unscrew the gun-hose from the main unit, and when I did it released a lot of under-pressure air, so it was doing something.

This morning it turned on, but the pump never stopped running. When I pulled the trigger on the gun nothing happened (no water, pump continued to run). Then I turned it off and on again, and the pump never ran once, and still nothing when the trigger is down.

The polish should be removed with either a DA buffer/polisher or with a nice clean terry-cloth towel....just like your wax.
