my shifter rattles

so, The shifter in my OBS has TONS of play in it (has since i got it), also while going down the road it will rattle at times, if i grab the shifter and put slight pressure to one side it will stop, is this just bushings or what? Also it has a Kartboy SS if that matters at all!

well he did the SS and didnt do the bushings..im gunna buy the whole set and see if that fixes it..maybe? haha

Shift stay bushing, rear mount bushing. Linkage may have washers missing. Can't really tell unless you get in there.

I had the same issue with my short shifter. The metal cylinder that goes directly around the bolt was wider than the shifter itself, so the shifter was able to slide back and forth within the fork of the shift linkage. The width of the small cylinder prevented my from tightening the bolt any more. I took a washer and ground out the inside so that it would fit around the small cylinder and put it on the bolt and it fixed it.

i would start with the linkage bushing directly at the tranny that is the one that usually wears out first all of the kartboy bushing will not help with play in the shifter they will just make it rattle more

i have the kb shifter and hard bushings. and hard ones give a ton of feedback rattle. try new oem and see if they help?

I have some slop and rattle in my son's new (98obs) car. The lock bolt right on the shaft (inside the boot) was a little too loose, tightened that, took care of some of the slop, most of the rattle. I had some one shift thru the gears while I was under the car. Every bushing was toast. So I ordered them all, cheap fix for an annoying issue.

2 Subaru shaft (under the boot) bushings. (not available from KB)

2 KB linkage Bushings

1 KB back bushing

1 Subaru linkage knuckle (not available from KB)

1 Subaru linkage/knuckle bolt (yours is probably re-useable)

1 Subaru knuckle roll pin. (yours is probably re-useable)

I suspect that will take care of everything else. Haven't installed it yet, Tuesday for sure.

I dunno. Call EG parts. EG might have an account with Turninconcepts. Their knuckle might be cheaper than Subaru's knuckle...might not. Call and get some quotes, SHOPPING! Yeah!

Installed all my bushings. Mucho improvement. I'll get them parts dept freaks to send you a MS quote on shifter bushings and stuff.
