Need a sticker...

So wifey's car needs to be inspected, and I'm hoping to get a sticker without being told to fix anything. We're closing on a house in a month and a half, and we're saving everything we can.

SO - not looking for anything shady per se, but would like to know some places that look less hard for problems than others.

Advice?

Just forget about it til the house is signed for. The cops usually dont beat people up for being a half month or whole month late. Worst case is you'll get a warning. Especially in a Forenzer.

And you can make up a story like you were just in for service 2 days ago and they had to order a part and you're waiting for the part before you go back in there. Or tell the truth. You listened to some guy on the interweb about the sticker expiring thing and you're trying to save every last cent so you can close on the house so you blew it off. Cops love the truth.

See, the interesting part is, I'm not worried about anyone but USM Police. Wifey works at USM, too - and maybe bacause we're hurting for money, or maybe because there's not as much going on "campus crime-wise", but the cops are going around and ticketing people's PARKED cars for being unregistered or uninspected.

+1 on the truth thing - many of my good friends are police officers around the country, and they'd completely agree with you. Plus, I was pulled over in Bangor in my old Saab one day and I was:

1) not wearing a seatbelt

2) not inspected

3) not registered

4) didn't have proof of insurance with me

5) wasn't carrying my license

6) had a taillight out

I told the cop these exact words: "Sir, I know this stop is pretty much a mess: I left my wallet at home because we went to the gym, and I don't have my insurance with me because I've forgotten my new card on the table in my apartment for about the last week. I apologize, but everything you've noticed is obviously my fault, and I'm not going to try to pretend it isn't."

Let me go with a warning.

Hrmmm, I didn't know USM Popo could give those types of tickets. I never see the Sheriffs Dept trolling Wally-World giving tickets for stickers expired.

Whats the plate number! I'm going to alert the authorities of this illegal activity!! >

I mean, don't you have to be present to recieve an expired inspection sticker ticket? And, are USM cops really cops? Do they go to court if you decide to fight it? If I bring my Arizona 1971 Pontiac Lowrider in there to pick up my brother are they gonna lock me up?

I'm not really understanding how the USM cop system works. Yeah I understand they can give you a ticket for not having the right parking sticker. Who gave them the right to ticket for expired stickers? Sounds like communism in a half square mile.

Welcome to the university of Maine system. At orono I remember the Public Safety (campus police) getting bored and starting to ticket parked cars for expired inspections & registrations a few years ago. Seemed like a complete waste of time to me....but I'm sure one of them was really enjoying it. And from what I knew they were treated very much like state police that just never traveled beyond the campus authority wise. They'd set up road blocks all the time on campus too...what a PITA those were if you had a car full of drunk people. O0

avoid VIP. They are failing people for dumb stuff like rust on a fuel line on a 2006 car with 20,000 miles. Yeah, theres rust on the fuel line but its not comprimising the fuel system. Plus they have no way of repairing the fuel line themselves at VIP so they dont get the work, dumbfaks.

Most places will be fair. Just do it.

Next time plan your house buying a little better.
