Need help wiring Hellas

HR radness

His royal radness
As usual I'm having an issue getting my Hella FF700's wired up. I've looked on NABISCO on several threads but all of them assume you have any sense with wiring in general (which I don't)

Anyone who KNOWS what they are doing:D willing to take a look and maybe hook em up for me? I can obviously provide beer

Not to refute a well educated mechanic, (Inski), but the issue is that Subaru switches the negative(ground) in their headlight systems. There is 12v+ constantly to the headlights. Which can feed through the bulbs, back to the relay, causing some funky results. I learned that the hard way with the Foz.

The wiring diagrams posted only work if you wire the Hellas independent of the headlights. Which in my opinion is a bad idea.

I will check my wiring on the Foz and RS and report back, later. Stay tuned, FMI.

Yeah I'd love to know how to do that Phil. I have all the wires hooked up correctly I believe except the "power" wire (the one that triggers the relay) I tried tapping that into the parking lights, but I'm not sure if I have the right one, hence the confusion over which wire is it

Do I cut the blue wire or the red one!??!

BOOM!

I would make a lousy bomb disposal guy, I'll stick to driving airplanes for now

I think wrxsushi is coming over today to assist. I'll report back, thanks for the input

Here is what I did.

On the relay:

#30 blue- 12v+

#85 red- 12v+

#86 yel- come from the switch included with the light kit

#87 blk- goes to the hellas

Green to switch connects to high beams for driving lights, low beams for fogs. This is where it gets tricky.

On the Forester, the high beam wire at the socket is RED.

On the RS, high beam wire is yellow w/ blu stripe.

In theory, to test wiring; (and I could be wrong on this)

Remove headlight socket

turn on lights

There should be 12v between one terminal and the frame of the car/engine block. That would be your constant 12v+.

turn on high beams, for driving light wiring (or low if your wiring fogs)

now you should have 12v between the first terminal and one of the other two in the socket. connect the green wire from the Hella harness to that terminal.

test everything before you put it all together neatly to be sure you're getting the desired results.

I didn't know you wanted them hooked in with the factory crap. The links are for Aux/Independent hook up. sorry

Follow John's instructions.

Update, still no worky

Found high beam wire on headlight plug, vampire tapped into that

Checked fuses, found blown fuse. Replaced fuse

Checked connections, found #2 lamp not connected:(. Connected wires

Double checked all connections and fuses, everything is connected according to both Hellas diagram and 4WRXter's instructions. Both are solid.

Still no lights. Switch illuminates with high beams on but no lights in front

AYUDAME por favor!!

I seemed to have helped myself

All fixed, nice lights!!

Just about the same as my FF1000's

For anyone looking to do this and which wire to tap into for power, I used the yellow/red stripe one on the left headlight plug. That's for highbeams only.

Thanks for the input folks. That is,of course except moody:rant:

sorry to hop into thread late, Rad

I'd tellya what to do, 'cept you already did it!

Rallylights has a great diagram covering how to make Hella stock harness work with suby weird heardight setup.
