Need Help with my 240

Hello,

My 240sx is running kinda ****ty and i cant figure out whats going on. If anyone could give me some advice i would really appricate it. Here are the symptoms, car is running super rich and when it gets hot the idle bounces then almost stalls out, Black exhaust smoke. I donno if it could be the EGR valve or the IACV possibly. thanks! -scott

one of the guys who joined up a couple months ago had one he'd done stuff to, and at least a few others have had them. black smoke is too much fuel, you have a check engine light for mass airflow sensor or crappy 02 sensors?

 
What year 240? what engine? did you do any recent work to it?

did you:

check/clean maf?

check for vaccum leaks?

look at the spark plugs?

also did you try retrieving any codes?

240's have MAFs not MAP. Try cleaning or replacing the MAFs (I've got a stock one from a 97 KA if you need to borrow). What year is your 240?

 
I got a 93 s13, I cleaned the maf already still running crappy. I'm gonna have to try to clean the iacv or replace it, maybe egr? Just sucks cause its under the intake manifold

When I am back in town I'll take a look at it with him prob just a maf, 02 sensor like you thought it was... it has also been sitting so there is prob a lot of condensation being built up from it starting (water in oil/gas) it will smoke a lot and bog down after sitting... Burn off the fuel/ change the plugs/ add 91 oct and that might help. Check under the oil cap for what looks like condensation or mayo... that's not a blown hg it is from water in the gas (part of the combustion process). This may be what is causing the excess burning/bad running conditions.

 
hes gonna soon, when i find time to go up there and take another look at it. I doubt highly its the headgasket, but you never know, probely just something stupid.

 
yeah I "got rid" of my EGR when I boosted my 240 and didn't have any problems. It would probably be best to do it the "right way" though, unlike me...haha

 
If you want to bring it by I'll look over it with you. I'm on the SoPo/Cape border.

I could spit out ideas but it's much easier to just look in person.

I'm no expert but I have yet to find a problem on a car I can't fix.

And yes, I'll do it for free. I just like spinning wrenches.

 
Its up in augusta right now stored at my rents house. I'm gonna mess with that egr. Imblance did u judt remove the egr then put a block block in??

 
I'm not sure what the setup is like on the 240, but on the sentras you can block the exhaust manifold EGR bung with a nickel, it fits perfectly. $0.05 egr block off kit.
