I'm getting prepared for the upcoming event at Storyland. I have read on other forums

that the ideal gas mixture for inflating tires is a 78%/21% nitrogen/oxygen mix. I see that

some tire stores offer the 100% nitrogen and that the local bottled gas suppliers offer

either 100% nitrogen or 100% oxygen but not the proper mix. Has anyone done this before

and if so would they like to split the cost of the bottled gas? Looking for anything to go faster.

Also is this mixture allowed in the AutoX stock class?

it is allowed as far as I know. but not worth it. you are goign to need to bring a tank with you to the events as you will want to run more pressure durring the event than you will on the way to and from.

I don't think anyone in CMC uses Nitrogen

The problem I have with the whole thing is this: You tire, even when not pumped up, is full of air. Unless there is a purge valve on tires I don't know about, you'll never have a fill-up of pure nitrogen.

Also, every single customer that comes in with the green valve caps (a signal you've got nitrogen) has tires that are low. I ain't wastin' my money.

100% true. 90% of the general public only check their air pressure...oh, wait, They never check their air pressures. Its good to them if the tire is still round when the next oil change comes around. Its not good when they hear the thump thump thump thump thump.Lets talk about tire pressure in general...well for autocross anyways.

What do you guys run for PSI in your tires? I start at 35 or 36 psi then adjust from there.

Front different than rears?

Does anyone use a durometer at the events? Or temp guage?

I used to check scrub/tread roll with a tire crayon. Is that still a cool method?

inski, every tire, car, and driver will require different TP for autox. I usually run 35-36 on the street... :

Last year i averaged about 42 in the front and 38-40 in the rear. Rear temp was dependent on the course and temps that day, which affected oversteer.

Tire can differ on how the warm up too. the yokos i had last year were awesome! They warmed up pretty good and only got really heat socked once on a 90+day with 2 drivers.

After an autox run tires def get hotter and TP goes up. With 2 drivers i had to let some air out between runs cause they were so close together. With only one driver a tire usually has more time to cool. But if they do get too hot just letting a little air out works very well to maintain TP. And if they get really hot those garden squirters are great i hear.

Man i can't wait to get back out there!!! >

then again, he might have gotten out of his dilemma quite well -- he asks a semi-gumby question, then foists it off as April fools...he should be in Marketing!

oh... well not to be the guy " he didn't get ME!!" but when he put the mixture he was thinking about running i kinda figured it was a joke. man i watch too many science shows to be healthy i guess haha
