so im buying a new wrx and i was trying to guesstimate how much its going to cost to register. im getting from ocean subaru in nh and i live in maine. am i going to have to pay sales tax and excise, i think they said my current reg will give me a break on sales tax. i know excise will be around $750 because the sticker is around $31k. ive seen a few people have bought out of state so i was hoping you could shed some light on this. btw im getting a 2009 swp wrx premium which there are zero for sale in new england, they got one the last 2 comming into new england

. the other is going to conn.

If your primary residence is in Maine you are going to have to pay the reg and 5% sales tax. Not that it is going to make it less painful but some of us had to pay quite a bit more than what you have to anti up

The 5% state sales tax and the the approx 2.5% on the sticker price not what you paid for it to register the car the 1st time is enough

For my car which was like $34k new cost me almost $500 when I got a tag for it up here and that was with it already being 2 years old.

Oh by the way if you are going to spend $31k on a car why not anti up the extra couple of grand and get an STI?

exactly!!!!

i payed just over 2 k more than that for my sti and myne had extras like fog light kit exhaust tip finishers etc etc. for aprox 2k more you could of had a 6 speed leather and swade seats full body kit 18" rims mesh grill 40 more hp and more lb ft tourque plus all the extra goodies in an sti

How in the heck did it cost you almost 1k?

I have a 2006 STI and when I moved up here in Feb. 2008 it cost me like $480 for the whole sha bang. Plus I have special tags so it cost just a hair more.

im not paying 31k im only paying about 27,500 but sticker is 31ish so its not a few grand or i would, plus i know the sti has lots of nice upgrades but 6 grand for a car that is only a tenth faster in the quarter doesn't make sence to me. for 6k i can do a ton of upgrades that would spank a sti.

and as far as deep pocket i already live in maine so it wont be as much because of my current registration, atleast i hope

because you already reg. your car in another state and payed your sales tax on it

were the person above bought his in a nother state and registered it in maine so he had to pay 5% of his purchase price for sales tax which 5% of $16000 is $800 bucks

so if the 09 wrx your buying is $27,500 your sale tax alone is $1375

They should give you two choices. A credit with current plates or new plates and .024% of sticker depending on how much credit you want back from the gov. next year. ( If the offer still going

) I'd guess your looking at $2131 b4 any credits

but no need to go faster when the sti looks so dam sexy standing still lol

Bah they both look goofy.

But the tranny is worth the extra cash. For sure....especially if you're used to driving a fwd honda...you'll be in for a real treat when that 5mt pops in 10-20k.

You are so right. Not to mention the new sti is not .1 sec. slower. If you saw the old Car and Driver when they first test the 08' sti then when they compared the STI to the new premium wrx they actually changed the STI numbers. I had both magazines and numbers were inflatted in the STI to make the new wrx look better.

Like Ruggedman said also the bullet proof 6 speed is worth the extra dough when your 5 speed (made of twigs and berries) pops the first couple of times you get on the car after doing some mods to it.

Beyond that I will say Subaru did a good job on the 09 wrx premium. Decent price I guess for what you get. It is a nice car that will be able to compete with the new Lacer OZ rally.
