New car time....

Ok ok, not for me, but for my mother. She has been a long time RWD BMW driver and is absolutely in love with them. She appreciates a comfortable, but sporty and luxurious car. It came time for her to look at a new vehicle and there were only a few options. We decided to go with AWD this time around rather than RWD. She likes a smaller midsize sport sedan, so it came down to a 335xi and a G37X. She ended up with a fully loaded G37. It honestly is just about a BMW beater for a fraction of the price. The car has features that aren't even available on the BMW and for so much less. More importantly is how it drives. The thing is great. The previous 3.5VQ has a nice low end, but lacked on the top end. The 3.7 addresses this issue nicely. When you step on it, it picks up and goes, but it will pull pretty hard to the redline. The suspension was a great balance of sport and comfort. I actually liked its handling dynamic more than my Spec.B. It surprisingly had less body roll than my Spec. In auto mode the 7speed can hunt at times, but in manual mode it's pretty good. It's fairly quick on the up-shift and the rev-match control is pretty nice. I wish I had time to snap some pictures before I came back to Maine, but unfortunately I did not. I was told I could have some fun behind the wheel once I come home though:rolleyes:. Honestly, I would have bought a G for myself if I could get AWD with a manual transmission.

woooow, sounds nice

Yea the g37s is one of the cars I have been considering replacing the sti with. Those things have so many little buttons and gadgets you have to love them. They go pretty good too.

the g37 is a really nice car... I dont like the new style over the g35 but inside its a sick ride. Bmw cant compete with it.

ahem...gentlemens: in case u hadn't noticed, this here is a Subaru site.

Therefore, on these pages all non-Scoobies SUCK.

Just to keep thread on topic, the G that I drove was hands-down the worst winter car EvAr. Gobs of power was the whole problem, made even worse by hyper-aggressive throttle tip-in: non-defeatable trac control cut power so bad the effin car wouldn't even cross a flat parking lot with a half-inch of slush on it.

WTF??!!

trac controll is defeatable... trust me (it will totaly shut down and say slip on the dash once you do a donut or anything of the sort. The vdc button does shut it down on my car and it wont try to counter act anything I dont know about later g's. The rwd coupe sucks and you are right it has way too much power on throttle tip in. Even with good snow tires it is useless. The g37x is awd tho and should be a lot of run in the snow... Throttle tip in was change in the 05ish g35's i think that's why my g35 feels/is more fun to drive then a newer one.

I own both BMW's and Subaru's. The new Legacy is $15k less than a similarly equipped BMW. Not to mention the cost of ownership over the lifetime of the vehicle. It all depends on what you are looking for. After issues with my wife's 95 325i, I swore I would never own another. We took an 02 330xi black/5spd. 102k in trade. I got a hell of a deal on it. It is the only reason she got another one. Until I have to turn wrenches on it, I love driving it.

o jim jim jim...you Break My Wallet two-timer. ...guess you're just a slow learner eh

ps--I still suffer E36 M3 lust tho, am currently in therapy for it so maybe there's hope (of finding a non-riced M3 that is, lol)

If it hadn't been black and 5 speed, I wouldn't have bought it. She was going to get a Legacy until the 330xi arrived. I can work on them, so I can take a chance.

I take it you were in a RWD G? As I said, we bought an X model.

It actually is possible to shut the stability control. Just push the VDC button and you're good to go. Every car with stability or traction control will stop you in your tracks. If my VDC is on in the Subaru I wont do squat in the snow. It will stop any slippage from occurring. Same in the VW and BMW and the other cars I have experienced in the snow. That's why it says when you're trying to get the vehicle unstuck it should be turned off.

There's also a snow mode. Push it and the throttle response is cut in half and the AWD system locks and engages from a standstill.

It's a pretty fun car. I've been in every generation that's hit the road and can say the new ones are far improved. Were you in one of the first generation models? Pre-2005? That could explain some of the reasons you didn't like it.
