Hey there,

Just want to say hi, and that i'm new to the whole subaru scene, However not new to the tuner scene, but  I'm currently starting my slow search for a subaru, and i'm wondering what people suggest. goals, we'll i dont have a lot of money, but some, and i  would like to have something that is respectfull,  not looking for 400awhp, but something that will suprise the other person that pulls up beside me. I like looks too, black on black or the blue that subaru has and tinted windows..

I have three kids, wife, and i was thinking of going with a forester xt, and doing some sti stuff to it, turbo, upper ic, turbo back exhaust, ect... total sleeper, but then again i've always loved the wrx platform with the 4 doors, so i'm kinda torn as to what to pick, i dont see much for sale in maine so that purposes another issue..

Anyway, just want to say hi, and i hope to find some good information on this site..

Thanks again

If turbo is in your budget, go for a forester XT as those don't fail fantastically like the turbo legacy/outbacks.

If you're a balla on a budget, get a 2000-2004 vintage non-turbo legacy or outback wagon if you need the space, otherwise do an impreza sedan or hatch (I'm a single guy and wish I had at least a hatch, with 3 kids I wouldn't touch a sedan)

Bingo. I have a sedan and I'm a single guy and its too small haha. FXT all the way if you can find one...And welcome!

Welcome, good luck with the car search. The 3.0R legacy wagon could have some pretty good potential, as well as functionality.

Getting the doors blown off of you by forester is probably the biggest surprise. Like Dan said, they seem to be pretty reliable. They have a lot of room, and with 3 kids I can't see even a sedan being that roomy for you.

Welcome to the club.

Thanks guys, Yea i think i'm going to go with the xt.. Has enough room, and i can still put the stroller in the back hahaha. And i'm def going to upgrade it a little make it a total sleeper.

Some sti upgrades. I'd like to achieve around the 300 mark, def should be a good goal and a good number for a daily driver, weekend go getter..

Thanks again.

I have nothing but good things to say about a Forester XT. Has room for a family, and it's tons of fun to drive, and mod to your liking. Just post pics and start a journal when you get one!

I wish I had gone with a forester instead of my wrx >.<

Welcome and I'm sure no matter what you get you'll enjoy it.

I wish I had spent more time researching my first Subie, and I would have gone with a Forester XT over the 2.5i Impreza sedan I purchased.  I miss having a hatchback (I had a Mazda3 before this car).  I'd love some pep, but I would like to retain cargo room too.  I'm thinking my next Subaru will be a WRX hatchback, or the Forester XT.

Welcome to the site, enjoy your stay, and and enjoy the new ride once you decide!

Thanks guys I'm Definatly doing my research, my only thing I come back to the week 5 speed tranny that won't handle a lot of power, I don't really need a ton of room because most of the time is just me my wife and our son, and it will be my Dailey driver to work, so I have a lot to think about and research to do..

Forester XT 5 speeds are stronger than the early WRX ones. And, you can always swap in a 6 speed......

Welcome, I have 2 kids myself and got a legacy sedan and its pretty tight. Forestor will deff have enough room. Good luck with your search

Yea there's def options, so i'll just have to see what's out there when i have money in hand, i'm just thinking that a sti will be less work, turbo's already there, tranny, stuff like that, and for as much as the kids are actually in the car, i also have a third row trailblazer so we can always take that if it's a tight fit.. Plus theres a lot more wrb sti's then there is forester xt
