noob with 02 wrx wagon...warm starting problem...

just picked up a 02 wrx wagon for my girls... and it has trouble starting after it warms up... for example...

went to the grocery store this morning... it started fine in my driveway no check engine light... drove it about 6 minutes to the grocery store... went in for about 5 minutes... turned the key to start it... no dice... turned again to start... no dice... third time starts... and the check engine light stays on...

it doesn't happen always... i would say 8 of 10... it happens... sometimes the check engine light comes on sometimes it doesn't... should it try resetting the ecu?

has anyone had this problem? if so... any offered solutions...

Might wanna start by having the code read. It will lead to a better answer to your problem then what we can speculate. It may be something easy.

 
thanks nate... going to get it inspected soon... any suggestion where i could take it... other than the dealership?

 
Well, I have a shop I recommend up here (M&A auto, Just outside of Lewiston, 5 mins from the turnpike). But seeing as your in the Ptown area, Im unsure. I would say where ever you are going for your inspection can take care of you.

Also, how long has it been since you purchased the car? State law requires that the dealer honor a 30 day "inspection item" warranty. And having a check engine light is a reason to fail an inspection. Chances are you will have to have the issue fixed to pass anyway.

 
it was a private sale from out of town... maybe i could bring it up there... i will let you know... i would like someone who know subarus to check it out... the price was more than reasonable and i don't mind investing a little if i have to...

Well def call up M&A, and have them take a look. Im sure they can help you out and fix you up with an inspection sticker at the same time.

Any noise, lights, anything? or totally dead? when you finally start it when warm, does it start right up or kinda cranks to start?

or does it just click? sometimes it really helps to be as specific as possible.

 
sorry guys... the motor spins... lights... everything comes one... but it just doesn't start up right away... it take 2 or 3 tries... and sometimes it gives me a check engine light...

 
next step is to get the code read. that could be nothing, or it could tell you exactly what the problem is. let us know after you get it read. and btw.. some parts stores will read the code for free. Auto Zone will. and please don't take it to VIP for anything.
