OBP Paint problems

I bought an Obsidian Black Pearl 2009 WRX Premium in march and it has so far been a nightmare keeping this things body looking new. Biggest problem is that every 2 months or so something bad will happen to the body requiring paint repair. First off I had to get a new front bumper 2 days after I picked up the car. It only had about 300 miles on it. I truck kicked up a limb on the road and it impaled the bumper just under the passenger headlight. More recently a friends girlfriend turned in to the rear drivers side while backing out and peeled the paint off the bumper. Lastly I got a door ding at work on the rear passenger door and it took a paint chip off and dented the door. The problem I have is this, every time I take it to a body shop I have the same issues, the paint they use has too much green flake and the clearcoat fogs up a little so it is never the same deep black it use to be. The first bodyshop was owned by the dealership and the second was a... somewhat cheaper place with a 2 car garage converted in to a body shop. The first place cost twice what the second place did but the 2nd place did a better match. Anyone else have these kind of issues with OBP paint? Can anyone recommend a good place to get these kind of repairs? I live in the Farmington area but work in Augusta. Oh, also I feel for all you pothole haters out there, I have ruined 2 rims, a tire and borked my alignment on a pothole in Kingfield ME.

Sorry all that crap happened to you, hopefully you had all your bad luck for the year. I am sure someone here will have some good advice for you and welcome aboard Ryan.

ouch. sounds like another OBP 09 wrx i know.... carter has more body part newly painted on his car then not.

i dont think he had any issues with the paint not matching though. only think i noticed was the orange peel wasnt an exact match. that's hard to do. hand spraying isn't at precise as a machine.

I saw a brand new OBP WRX at Patriot & it's entire drivers side was orange peeled, from the factory.

My 2009 Accord's rear end had to be repainted before I'd buy it-you guessed it, orange peeled.

Oem paint jobs, even JDM ones, in black, seem to be sucking a lot lately.

Perhaps good robotic car painters are hard to find??

My '05 STi OBP paint is in great shape... Not.

So off for a $3-4K paint job, every three years or so, I guess.

Black cars are a pain, but they're the only color I own.

wow between you and carter glad i didnt my car in black. there is nothign better lookign in the world then a nice clean shiny black car but gettign it that way andkeepign it that way are very very hard

Just save $100/month for paint, & every three years, paint.

Easy enough.

IMO nothing is better looking than a black/black/black car.

In fact, when I buy a truck this winter, I plan on it being... you guessed it... Black.

Black is always the hottest color... for the whopping 5 minutes it's not dirty.

I'll be ridding myself of the OBP in the late spring, hopefully.

I hear ya man, keeping a car looking new is impossible. 3 weeks after i bought my 2.5i i got 2 dents in the driver door, then last Easter someone ran a shopping cart into the side of the rear drivers side door. left a 3 inch crease in the door. I have not had them fixed because I feared what your problem is the faded/dulled out look. If you ever get other dents try paint-less dent removal. Don't have the funds to do it for my car right now but will in the future.

I know the feeling, both front and rear bumpers have been replaced, the car has swirl marks all over it, and I have had to touch up a few places on the hood and door. I want Lightning Red!

Have it buffed and another layer of clearcoat applied Carter.

I know just the guy.

When my OBP is done you can check it out!

I think if I find someone with a proper polishing pad on thier buffer it will look better. Right now this thing is covered in swirls. I made the mistake of trying to have a few light scratches buffed out when the bodywork was done. The paint match actually looks decent but the clearcoat looks dulled in a few places. I'm hopping that with a little more work it will come out. When I do it should be just in time for something else to happen to it. Knock on wood. Black is kinda pissing me off now. I do know a shop in waterville where I did detailing to hold me over between jobs a few years back. Maybe I can have it cleaned up there, we did a few black infinitys and mercedes that came out really nice.

Oh forgot to mention, when I went to have some additional buffing done the guy was down to his last polishing pad and it looked like it was falling apart. No wonder I have swirls.

i'm fine taking care of the paint, whenever i get time. needs a good buff.

however, what chaps my ass is how thin the paint is. if you look at it wrong it chips down to the metal...

You said it. I shot the tip off my pressure washer at my pontiac and it just left a scratch. Little buffing and it was good. Same when my brother turned his car in to the wheel and bumper. Just some minor paint transfer but a little wet sand, rubbing compound, polishing compound and wax.... whew... and you couln't tell. But this damn subaru paint, not only is the whole car orange peel from the factory, everytime something touches it it strips the paint to metal or plastic. Its a real PITA. BTW I wouldn't complain so much if I had my own buffer and detailing package. Haven't got around to that yet.

here is a tip for you guys... WASH YOUR CAR WEEKLY! WAX YOUR CAR EVERY MONTH! SPRAY WAX 2 times a week...it takes about 5 mins

here is what my car gets-

1-washed every time i drive it.

2-Fully dry with blade and then cham

3-spray waxed 2 coats (armor all wash and wax is the best anti static i can find as of now) 1 coat nano spray 1 coat armor all... everytime i have a friend or family memeber to do it for me (about everyotherday)

4-waxed with goldclass wax 3-5 coats YES 3-5 coats every other week...

5- wax your wheels with spray wax it keeps stuff off and prevents pit marks.

6- Stop hitting ****!

THIS KEEPS DINGS FROM HAPPENING... Cant help some things but it has stopped rock chips that I was getting b4.

I still cant keep paint on my front bumper tho lol... so I am kinda in the same boat.

Meh, I have a big dirt driveway and no garage to keep the car in. I drive 53 to 60 miles daily. Oh and I dont get home till the sun is going down. I do the best I can.
