Official Dirt Drive Thread

N/A All The Way!!
I can't plan something like this because I wouldn't know where to have it, but....

How many folks would like to get out for a group drive on some good old dirt roads here in Maine? In my area, Augusta, I can't think of anything that will work, but maybe folks in other areas of the state do. How much interest is there in something like this and more importantly, who knows where to go?

I have a few and will check them out and get back to you.

I won't be able to check any for a couple weeks I am in a crime scene mapping class for the next two weeks. I'm gonna be a C.S.I

how much do you want? i and my brother can plan a dirt drive that will last all damn day and never see a patch of pavement. hundreds of miles of dirt to play on up here, and one stretch of tribal land road that rival ANY WRC STAGE on the planet. and i mean that with all honesty. as the wife after our drive across it yesterday lol

only concern about a dirt drive is radios for sweeping, someone with a sweep for yanking cars if someone pooches it and all this on the heels of rain or showers to keep the dust down. and be aware that where i would take you there is NO CELL reception.

departing here in the bangor area we would head east parallel to route 9 intothe vast maine woods.

anyone?

gravels recommended, mudflaps a must for keeping stones out of the person behind you.

also most of these roads are maintained but there are still chances of places where crawling to get through are a must. but the roads on the other sides of those crawls are incredible!!!!!

not for the faint of heart, all roads are passable in a subaru, you wont need 36's and a wrangler to get around out here.

Sounds awesome! But I'm without gravel tires....maybe we can get something planned for October or November....my snows are going on the first weekend of November.

you can do it with snow tires if you give them a few pounds over to make sure the beads stay sat.

90% of the roads are free of car breaking rocks most of it is fine to medium gravel. october is best for me as well.

if you can run 15's i can get anyone good deals on used Rally Tires from the boys of LDR.

hit me with a PM to get more details on pricing and brands, compunds etc.

this sounds like the perfect opportunity to break in or break my new snows

Excellent..looks like we have four if Adam isn't locking away the bad guys! Honestly I think that I have zero October weekends left open, but lets try and schedule something before the white stuff starts falling.

likewise. i can't make it till november.

.

What about a nice dirt/sand/mud patch to just play around in with no fear of police?

lol, we have a Nissan Maxima and a Nissan Murano.

The 4wd is amazing in the Murano, when its on... I drove it off the road around a sharp left turn once (stopped an inch from a tree!) and I was about 3 feet below the road, over (through) a snow bank. I literally hit the 4wd lock button and backed right back onto the road with the stock tires. I don't think it will grip very well in mud though. I'm also 99% sure that it won't be able to pull other cars out

Haven't even set a date yet, but I think that the 1st weekend in November should be the first date we look into. Thoughts from anyone on this? Its kinda up to the people who know the roads, I just started the thread!

November dirt drive??!! WTF are you guys thinkin??!! That's deer season you nummahs!

That means lots of extra traffic on remote roads, definitely the most vehicles out in the sticks of all year -- not the best situation for bombing around

Well, that DOES mean plenty of potential sweep trucks out there tho ...but realize they will all be armed, so try not to piss em off first

The dust and noise of a caravan of wannabe rally subies will really endear you to all the hunters....gaaah, count me out.

On a brighter note, got my doe permit this year tho so heh, I'll be out in the woods waitin' with my rifle. See yez out there, ya'll better behave!

Ummm, guys...it's called "A Rallycross."

It's where you get ENCOURAGED to play in the dirt...and there are often a number of police officers out there kicking up the dust already! Only fear you gots of those police is having em make you look like a granny driver

see Union Fairgrounds thread for details.

...and no, you don't need no suby to partake of this siliness -- Muranos, Saturns, your sister's Kia....run whatever you gots.

thanks Nigel, but I kind of want a place to go to on my own time, I usually am too busy to go to the Rallycrosses.

edit: I can't find it, unless its the thread that was posted by the guy asking about what to bring.
