alright i just sold my eclipse

and the motor is ready to be dropped into my subaru

car is a 2002 WRX, motor is currently out. rebuilt heads. all new gaskets

with the money i had to set aside for school

i have just about 1000$ in cash ready to modify my 2002 bugeye scoobie

very excited

so what should i do?

id like to get some decent performance. but id also like some wheels/tires, those can come later i suppose

guess im just wondering whats a good set of entry level mods for the first grand i put into this thing

any advice would be appreciated

and if your trying to sell something i could use post it here too!

anti-sway bars are great. The rear sway is the best bang-for-buck mod! Front sway can make winter driving a bit more challenging (or fun if you like it that way :-) )

Then exhaust of whatever flavor. Up Pipe is a must! stupid cat before turbo!

then springs that suit your driving style. ie iebachs are soft while RCE yellows are pretty stiff, and there are a ton in between. STi pinks aren't bad and they leave some ground clearance for winter.

Have fun. Remember i have that invidia DP for sale...

I just bought my 02 WRX in December and it had a ton of stuff done to the engine, but nothing really done to the suspension. I can tell you that you NEED suspension! I got wicked sway at high speeds and all of that crazy stuff. That is what im working on at this point, is to get some good suspension under the car! Lowering springs, anti-sway bars, and struts or coil overs at some point in the future. The exhaust is pretty straight forward and easy to do. Makes the car sound mean and gets good bang for your buck!

Separate snow / summer tires and brakes. Save some for gas, insurance, registration, speeding tickets, maintenance items, etc.

if you really want to make the car faster...start by modding the driver instead of the motor.

spend your $1000 on running some rallyX, autoX, or a 1-day Rally Experience school at Team O'Neil in NH.

your #1 hardware focus should be suspension -- good shocks and upgraded rear sway. don't diss your stock springs, stock WRX springs retain full wheel travel, crucial to keep suby driving right on rough roads here in Maine. KYB GR-2s are cost effective upgrade for pooched stock struts. coilovers are overkill until you really get better behind the wheel.

then good tires, decent ones that fit stock wheels are WAY better than crappy tires on big 17s or 18s.

drive the car as is (or w/fixed suspension) and have fun learning to drive better, and only then worry about mods for specific purposes...once your actually KNOW what those specific purposes are

a used 20mm rear swaybar from an STi is a great option.

cat-back exhaust is great because half the fun of daily driving these cars is the sound!! on the cheap side you can grab the cobb knock off for $200... more expensive but awesome is the hayward and scott or the sti genome.(and a million other options)

A catless sti uppipe, used 3" downpipe, and used accesport will get you great power for the price...

Then buy a boost gauge.

EXACTLY what Nigel said. no point making it go faster if you can't handle it!
