old sube inspection day

I took the 1987 to a favorite garage. they understood all the welding again. If real inspectors run out, I found an option to go to state police, they call it "custom". It isn't quite in that realm yet. shamefully, I didn't get the same inspector. Nitpicking about half of the ebrake cable. As some may remember, old subes had a means to bind one side, if both are hooked up. I humored it, hooked it up. Optimistically, I offset what maybe a perfect subaru error in the ebrake. Then he declared one tire bad, cups on inside edge. I really disagree..but what can I do? Then he mentioned right fron wheel bearing. I do not know what was lurking through his decision making, I humored an inspection and retorque. grease is still the same cool color I put in. I even banged it, defying rules of bearings... Maybe the guy should have said "unbelievable, there is no errors."

If they only knew the depth of realm my mechanical career had to go...I wonder what prerequisite I can STAMP on the car...the sube is quite simple. at least I didn't get treated like an old innocent lady..almost.

I hope this is optimiosm for DIY and piulverized subes in new england. Ironically, I look out side to a familiar loud suby sound and there is a green impreza bouncing nearly strutless like a clown mobile and open exhaust, right by my place. Its like a slap ya know? Some of us take working cars seriously, and way beyond. No jokes. It could leave an inspector behind after you learn more than subaru never knew about thier own car.

Also, I spotted a new sube, looked like a new wrx "nadz 09". Is that someone that frequents here? I thought I spotted a nick name similar, not to put this persons car in a spotlight..just curious.

I got another appointment this thursday, different garage. The state police inspection guy called back today, and said my complaint will be on a file, the dent in the rocker they created is up to me to complain to them..and I am just not going back. The thought of original oem rocker of the gl/loyale as a jacking point for 6 feet off the ground n a rickety lift leaves me scratching my head at the garages integrity for a final time. The car did indeed lift up right on the knifes edge of the rocker. my version is tripled, layered with a steel rod..that must help.

I also spke on behalf of racing t-rated directionals, this goes way back to my first years of driving, it even happened to t-rated on pickup trucks (the bf goodrich all terrain) was a very popular tire finally tough enough for more than a year on built rigs..and they cupped first season. the sube is exactly a mini version of the same phenomona. I hope that changes someday: the target of cupping on monster treaded tires, om AWD vehicles especially. 2wd has not much excuse, the dynamics to wiggle out in a crash and keep beautiful tires is inevitable.

I did get a sticker after all. Increasing the odss with a hit and run, 10 more hours of welding hammering, and locking in measurements (the car has a memory, that added a few days)

Ironically, I went back to the first garage that told me false things, and finally got the sticker. Welds seem to confuse inspectors at some places, just simply look at a garages yard for work that obviously has welding. Its kinda like a honda vtec with a fart can pulling into a classic chevy bulders garage to get inspected sometimes, I never thought I would encounter it with an old mechanical sube.

save the old subes, there is even remnants of an industry called welding out there...and there is even custom work done. oh my god. the rarity and insanity of common sense...
