jeez, yez can't get away with anything on de intArweb!

that is indeed LDR's dear departed Tulip 1, now being run by Planet Motorsports out of Toronto. The rallyX was a shakedown for Galway Cavendish forest Rally on Aug 9. she will still be running the 2.5 NA (not to mention the smooshed hood courtesy of a pesky Team O'Neil spruce), but Planet has a 2.7 STI stroker motor and 6 spd DCCD setup just waiting to get plunked into the old girl...watch out everybody. We hear the new colors are going to be pink with magenta daisies (??!!) so she won't be hard to pick out of the crowd.

how could you let this happen????

we shall see what we shall see on the color thing...

new owners want to keep a couple tulips on the car for historical reasons, they said, "no worries, we'll make ya proud of the old girl"

they wanted lightest Subie shell to stuff biggest Subie motor into...now there's a fine recipe for a proper rally cah.

well why didn't they do a 3.3l 6 from a tribecca and turbo that? sooo much cooler.. er hotter.. err... wouldn't want to wrench on that after a hot stage..

3.3 tubo six would be outside current "5-liter" nominal displacement limits, thass why
do turbos add displacement according to the rule book or something? and why do they call them nominal limits, wouldnt maximum limits be more applicable?

would have to check the rule book for exact factors, but yes, turbos add displacment according to equivalency factors, as does 4-valve cyl head, etc.

basically, the current US rally formula limits a turbo 4-valve motor to 2.0 liters actual displacment, then makes it breathe thru a 34mm intake restrictor (about size of a ping pong ball) so it's actually pretty incredible the cars put out as much oomph as they do. The 34mm restrictor cars are now putting down faster times than the unrestricted monsters of a few years back.
