I had posted this problem about a week ago, but, I have new is sight to the problem and cause though. So I have an overheating problem with my (1997) Subaru Legacy Outback, but, the wierd part is it only happens when I have the hot air on. When the hot air is off it stays regulated at a medium temperature. I don't know what it could be because I took the hoses off that go to the heating core and there's no obstruction and nothing in the radiator hoses as well. I'm trying to get this car fixed as fast and cheaply as possible Any in sight from someone knowledgeable would be helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

wouldnt it be always overheating if it was head gaskets? as well as burning coolant?

how are your levels? are the cooling fans activating?

the first time I turned on my heat in the 94 legacy (ej22) it overheated as well.... I topped off the coolant in the radiator and put a bit in the overflow tank it hasn't happened again.
