I don't know if I've posted before our how many people knew, but was reminded when I met jlyonsti earlier. A municipality is responsible for any damage done to a vehicle by a road defect after 24 hours of being notified of said defects existence. Ie: call town of oxford, " there's a wicked big pot hole on this road near here" 3 days later they haven't fixed it and you blow a tire. They are liable since they were notified and didn't remedy the problem. They may not always admit to knowing so if you do call something in, log time and date for future reference

good to know, pot holes are bad round here, ESP side roads

This is true, the state is also responsible on their roads, but its VERY hard to prove where the damage happened. Im on both sides of this issue. I work for the state DOT,last year we hit a big pothole in west gardiner on a state road, and bent the lower control arm on our wagon. The answer I got was "fill out a claim, but they wont pay for it." Im not sure on towns, but we have an actual legal department that investigates claims for line paint, windshields, and pothole damage.I would take all the pictures you can, document any reports you make, etc. Also, make sure your registration, insurance and sticker are all good before you call anybody, they do look at that.

The municipality I work for has paid out, and I've personally been sent to look at a road to see if the damage was feasible. Not saying it's easy, but possible to get reimbursed

I haven't bothered with nice rims since I bent two in the same hole on Hotel Rd in front of Thayers. Can't have anything nice in this backwoodshicknoteethwelfaredrugattic state.
