Power Steering "issues"

So I replaced my PS pump this past weekend with one I purchased from Nigel (came off an RS). The pump is tight, does not leak at all, and there are no questionable noises coming from it.

Resevoir is to level, but for some reason, my steering skips on occasion. This happens mostly when I'm stationary, but I haven't really tried it much at speed since there isn't a whole lot of lock-to-lock turning on road ways. It feels like there's air in the PS lines. I spoke with Pedro, and he felt the PS system needed to be "primed" but not "bled".

Is there a good way to determine if there is air in the system, causing my pressure fluctuations? There doesn't appear to be any leakage at the pump. I haven't taken a close look at the box though...

Thoughts?

P.S. This drove by while I typed:

jack front of car while engine is running, then turn wheel lock to lock several times. sounds like you have air in the lines to steering rack, or in the rack itself. don't thinks there's a need to bleed the lines but you gotta work the bubbles out.

No. Turning it back and forth will pressurize, relax, and repressurize the sysem. This fluctuation in pressure scares the crap out of the gremlins that live in your brake lines, whose flatulence is the cause of the bubbles.

Gremlins move out, no more gremlin farts screwing up the system

brake lines, eh? Hmm... then I guess it's a good thing I'm dealing with farts in my POWER STEERING SYSTEM instead of my brakes.

I don't want gremlins in my brakes - or my PS lines...

Speaking of Gremlins - this ad is pretty neat.
