bump this thread...blew it yesterday for good...

I think I am ordering a OEM one for now to save money. The local dealership here is quoting me cheaper than anything I can find online.. and even EBAY.

$130 - disk

$105 - Plate

$6 - Throw out

$12 - Pilot

not bad i guess.. would have liked to plan it and not have it happen like this tho.

resurface flywheel - $30-$40

I have no idea how that $6 is correct for the throw out bearing either they are like $80.

Good Luck!

edit: SGP lists the release bearing as $106.

I am going to call and reconfirm these are the correct parts because it is suspiciously low in every aspect.

Amazon says that won't fit my car. its a deff part number than the exedy one I just got off Ebay? If it does fit for some reason that is an insaneee deal!

oh and btw, the guy at the dealership here was waaaaaay off on his pricing...

the plate is 130, disk is 175, TO bearing is 145 and the pilot is 12... changes those number quite a bit so I went with a new one from Ebay,

Part # FJK1000

$342.50 shipped

$462/dealership, sounds more like it...
yeah unfortunately... in my case, $342/ebay sounds more like it haha

whats everyone's opinion on tackeling this myself? I amd def petrified of screwing something up but it would save myself $300+ and I might actually learn something along the way...maybe

A clutch is probally not one of the first major projects I would tackle myself. Its a pain in the ass on a scoob. To give you an idea its easier to pull the motor then pull the tranny to replace a clutch, unless you have a lift.

Yeah I know I gotta pull the motor out and it does seem east at all, but I wasn't sure if it was something that the average person could tackle. I've pulled and replace an American motor before but I know this is a completly different animal...

Its no american car but ive done worse. You can do anything it all depends on what tools and how much time you have at your desposal. I wouldnt try to tackle this in your driveway but if you have a decent garage for a weekend you should be ok.

Replacing a clutch on these cars is probally the hardest thing short of a motor rebuild but its not all that bad. Subarus are pretty easy cars.

I regret going with the Exedy Stg 1 clutch and 14 lb. flywheel on my 02 WRX. The chatter and noise it makes on decelerration is just not worth it IMO. If I had a chance to go back to OEM clutch and flywheel I would.

According to what I've read you can use a 5spd clutch with the 6spd. The disc and pp are just a bit smaller to fit inside the 5spd case.

boy am I glad to hear someone say that haha.. I was so close to going with the lighter flywheel and had herd a bit of both sides, good and bad, but I'm happy that I did not do that bc there is more complaints about it than positive remarks.

but will the 5 speed actually hold up with the higher power ranges?

And the weirdest thing about it is some people have the noise, and some don't! My brother had one in his GC, no noise, but mine is loud as hell on decel between 2-3k RPM. It's definitely snappier with the lighter flywheel, but I think the annoyance of the decel noise out weighs it

Yea the chatter on my exedy twin is horrible. Exedy does make the stock clutch though.
Yeah and that's what I ended up going with for now. I just went with the oem exedy since it was cheap and ts the correct fitment. For now it should be able to handle the power I plan on doing with it.
