"Professional" Rim Repair???

So wouldn't ya know... I just got a new (to me) set of gold BBS, and managed to curb the raisin out of one of them....

6in. of rash, and a 1/4inch chunk out of the lip....

I'm a walking pos.

Does anyone know someone decent who could repair my rims up, and paint them the color I planned on painting them anyways??? O0

i would powdercoat them, its a lot stronger of a finish that paint. maybe fill the curb mark with jb weld or something, then just get it powdercoated over.

ralli can powdercoat.

Yup, that's what I did with my curbed-to-shiit VW rims. Shuffed them, filled all the goudges with JBWeld, sanded smooth, and painted.

Power coating would better, but I cant recall who does it.

Powder coating is a bad idea for forged rims.... i've been told re-heating them to that temperature like that destroys their structural integrity...

*recollects about the pictures of crumbled wheels that were powdercoated*

that's the first I've heard that.

forged=thousands degrees and pressure.

powder coating= 450 degrees in the oven. Hell, your brakes will bring the wheel temp up to a couple hundred with track like conditions.

Nonetheless, painting them will be cheaper and easier. Call around to body shops, many have fixed up nice wheels before. Also call Kerry Staples and see what he can do, I know he does great work on bent wheels, not sure about curbed wheels.

Hrmmm, that's true....

But that's just like steel... you need 2750 degrees F to melt it... but less than half of that to disrupt its structural integrity...

But if it cools back off in the same shape would it return to its original strength?

Oh yeah, and Ralli does powdercoating, and I owe him that intake still that he said he'd PC some stuff for me... maybe I'll end up having him do those...

Not to double post, but lol, I just checked that link you sent (Helpful sit listing)

And Kerry Staples is like my neighbor.... didn't even know.

literally less than a mile from here (and in the country, that's yur neighbor!)
