at your budget, forget big hp!

NA Imprezas are great because:

--they go like stink on dirt roads

--they go like stink in the snow

--they ride smooth on rough roads

--they are easy and cheap to fix when you bend em

--they don't tend to attract unwelcome police attention like the turbo Scoobs

--did I mention they go like stink on dirt roads??!!

haha what do you mean by "go like stink"? is that good or bad? and i know i cant get big HP but would i feel a difference if i got better intake and possibly headers?

i have a 2007 impreza n/a and it is great. No, I do not have a turbo but I do have a reliable car that like Nigel says goes like stink on dirt in the snow and corners great, without all the added cost of having a turbo, you can run 89 gas and save money there. Don't get me wrong I would love to have a WRX or STI but I have no regretes owning my car, it works for ME! Hope this helps

Other then that I think that Nigel said it all

go like stink = passengers soiling they undies

is that clear enough?

don't worry about making your first car go faster with hp mods, learn to drive it to the max first...ppl are always amazed at how fast we can make Team O'Neil's clapped-out 2.2 Imprezas go on dirt mud snow etc --most especially Evo and WRX drivers!

Ok thank u for the info and do you think i find a decent one for under 3k so i have left over $$ for an intake at least and a stereo?

Get the 2.2 with the manual. My car goes pretty well. With studded tires it is a tank in the winter and can take any car without snow tires. The 2.2 is reliable as heck and fun to drive. In snow and dirt it almost always goes faster than I want to go anyway.

i've had impreza's from mid 90's and up and if everything is worn correctly on them like center diff. and stuff the automatics or standards that would i've had would spank other compact import like hondas and toyotas with very light mods.you just need to go and test drive some and see what you like more

Seriously this. Everyone wants horse power, which is all good and grand, but they overlook cornering and CAR CONTROL. Yes, going fast in a straight line in a wrx is cool, but it's pretty sad when you go to take that corner and some kid in a "lowly" n/a scoob flys right up behind you because you braked wrong, took a poor line, and generally had no idea what you're doing, (and I'm sure those crappy all seasons don't help). The NA cars wont win drag races or retarded light to light races, but you can make these cars turn incredibly well.

If you still think the na cars are slow, take a ride with some of the members on here. The dirt guys are insanely talented, and I'm trying to learn from them the magic voodoo of going fast on dirt. I like to think I was pretty solid speed wise when I was autocrossing my car, and I like to think I know what I'm doing when I'm qualifying.... errr.... I mean commuting.....

Best mod you can do is the driver.

Ask spinmaster how hard it was to shake my NA Fozzy in the twisties. Cornering and slideways fun is much more challenging than just going fast. I still dream of a Turbo Suby some day.

isn't suspension big $$$$ i mean so far what i have seen for the price of new suspension kits are BIG BIG $$$
Used sway bars on nasioc, sti springs are stiffer and drop you an inch, KYB AGX's cost like 300-400ish last time I checked. Depends on what you want your car to do and how much you want to spend.

Get good tires first so you can be spared from me typing up a billion paragraph rant about how the 6 year old rotted all seasons on whatever you buy suck.

Don't worry about your "mod list" and throw a bunch of money into your car right away.

Kid at my school threw a bunch of money at his car, then he went and rolled it like a noob. Learn to drive better first.
