Rabbit's Rally impreza

Hey guy's this is my first build journal, so here it goes.... So a few days ago i picked up a 1995 impreza L 1.8l AWD.  My goal with this is to build a rallycross car and to make it road legal while not breaking the bank (My budget is limited with a baby on the way). For starters it needs a passanger side rear strut, drivers side mirror, drivers side blinker lens, drives side tail light, drives side front fender, and more than likely tires. That should make it road legal for the time being. The inspection runs out in march at that point it will need the exhaust system sorted out. I really want to keep it simple with mods, an intake, full exhaust, narrow snow tires, and maybe more. It's a 1.8l so i know it wont be fast, but where im just starting out it will help me improve my driving skills and the power will come with time. Is there any advice for a newbie from some of the more seasoned veterans? What equipment ill need to get started? And is there a website with lists of events and rules? The car has been painted and bedazzeled with all kinds of go fast stickers which I will be removing at some point. I do have a picture but will take more when I can get home and there's light. Please give feedback or suggestions. I want to make sure im moving in the right direction.

Auto or 5speed? With a 5speed and keeping the rpms above 3500 it will be just fine for rallyx. At least that is what it takes for me to keep momentum playing in the snow with my fwd 1.8. Www.ner.org is the place to find events, although I think cmc does some as well.

Thanks for the advice guy's! The car is a 5speed, so I'll need to learn to keep the speed thru the corners to keep the momentum up.

You will never need 3rd gear, 2nd is all I ever got to use when I was rallycrossing a Nissan sentra. It's not about vehicle speed but keeping the engine where it makes enough power to make it useful. I am hopefully going to do a few events this year with my impreza.

a 2.2 swap is a direct bolt in and will give you a little extra power over the 1.8. that car has a 4.11 transmission which is a good thing

The 2.2L swap is definitely something I'd like to do. I'd also like to do a rear disk brake conversion. Anybody know if there's any winter events? I'd like to do something soon.

Well its been slow progress over the past month. I've scraped most of the stickers off the car and thanks to the parts Gabe has sold me, its road legal. But the project will take a new turn soon or possibly at the end of the summer. Im going to assemble a budget turbo build. Ive been doing a fair amount of research so far but still have a ways to go. I figured id shoot for stock wrx parts that people have left over from upgrades. I know that Meyagi has done this with his 93 impreza and id like to do it with my 95 1.8l. Im looking for any input or advice that anyone has for me. Im a newbie to turbo'ing anything, but am wanting to do this just to say i did it. But the main goal still is to rallycross this year whether its my impreza or my Fiat 500.
