random no starts (EJ22E)

So, my car runs awesome except for some 1500 - 2500 rpm hesitation when the car is VERY cold. Once it warms up a little (before the needle moves) it's fine.

Twice over the last 350 miles my car has failed to start. The thing will run awesome and then I'll go out to start it, and the starter will just crankcrankcrankcrank. There is no stumbling or studdering, just dry cranking for as long as I hold the key. I will usually let it sit for a while, try priming the fuel pump a few times (listening for it... yes, it's working), and then eventually (a minute or two) it will fire right up (with a little slow idle up to fast idle then regular idle). After that it runs fine.

It's an EJ22E in a 96 Impreza L. I have gotten a cam sensor code before, but I cleared it and did the grounding kit mod and I haven't had the problem since... but this just happened again tonight. Tomorrow I'll get the codes checked. Right now it's got a secondary O2 code.

I'm not a technical idiot, so let's brainstorm this. I'd hard for me to test fuel and spark because it only happens once every week or two and only for a few minutes at a time.

If it *is* the Cam Sensor and it threw another code (can't tell cos the CEL is illuminated because of the 2nd O2 code) would it cause this to happen?

I'll get the codes pulled in a little bit then post back.

I would like to make it known that the hesitation is only when the car is VERY cold, even before the needle has move at all.

And also, the no starts have only happened when the car was warmed up.

might be crank sensor, a dub guy at work had that issue and the explanation he got was when it got hot and expanded, the contacts got further apart and resulted in running like poop or lack of start

i had the cam sensor code when I got them checked today.

I will say with confidence that the cam sensor code only comes on when this happens.

What are my options for used cam sensors? Any EJ22E?
