Rattling in the center dash. Can't find it, it's not the clock.

I purchased the 02 wrx about a month ago. everything was fine. Now I'm hearing a rattling some where in the center console. its driving me crazy, what do i do. would a subaru dealer know how to fix this. i have no clue. please help. i ripped out the clock and taped the fasteners so i wouldn't rattle and yes it stopped for a bit. now there is a new rattling.!!

 
2 ideas....

1--try a bit of tape wedged in along the edge of the pop-out dash lid that the clock fits into. this panel likes to make noises and a bit of wedgie action along one or more edges might help

2--make sure your 'mid-dash rattle' isn't the cruise control stalk...the CC switch on my 05 Rex wag buzzes and rattles over certain road surfaces which drives me (*^^$#!! nuts. At first I was SURE the noise was coming out of the dash, but eventually tracked down the offending part.. As to how to fix this, haven't figured that out yet but at least I know what the culprit is!

Or make sure that your glove box is not the thing that is rattling. I guess it is pretty common for the sti's of all years so could be yours also. Just push up on the glove box as you are driving and see if it goes away. If so that is your source.

Let us know what you find.

That's good to know before I buy an 05 WRX wagon.

 
yeah try to listen to it closely and pin point where it is if u think u know where its coming from put your hand over that spot with pressure see if it stops and keep trying that's what i did in my integra when it had some in dash rattling aha

I get this same rattle !!!!

It drives me absolutely insane as well. Sometimes it rattles, sometimes it doesn't. I first thought it was my clock buttons rattling, but come to find out it wasn't. I've given up trying to fix it. Chasing rattles and weird noises on a Subaru is a losing battle.

 
I have "heard" of this before.

Try removing the upper cup holder to see if it is broken.

If not that then check to see if it is actually the rear view mirror might be loose.

If it is not let me know and I can check with the guys at work.
