This adorable little bastard is Kenny. He's coming home with me on the 15th when he hits the 8 week mark. He's an Australian Shepherd (Aussie) and I'm sure you will be seeing him at meets or as my co pilot.

no dogs allowed... sorry.

kidding. but you're not letting that little furball replace the cutie you usually drag along are you?

negative. she's a dog lover as well and has been a strong proponent of my getting a dog now for awhile

also negative. luckily they're easy dogs to train and at the very least he should be able to be house/car broken pretty early

He'll be house broken in short order, no doubt...

Now, "boost broken" is a whole other topic. You know that feeling you get when you are thrown against the back of your seat? Yeah, well don't expect Kenny to enjoy it as much as you.

Teh doggerZ has the best deal going. They pee on the floor, chew stuff up, get hair and muddy paw prints all over, bark at the mailman and anyone else walking by in the street.....and we love them for it.Of course it's the waggin tail and the 'o jeez dad I'm SO glad to seeya" greetings etc that really do you in.

my Springer spaniel Henri is literally the best $750 i ever spent, entertainment-wise.

Awwww, cute little Oz-boy! Henri grew up with a pack of aussies, they'd chase him for hours and he'd just plow ahead like a linebacker with a couple little free safeties hanging off his back

and other times he'd hip-check the aussies clean off the trail.

cute kenny pic, "awww, lookit that, kenny is eating kittens again!"

That's where I take my dog. They've always been friendly and send me reminders to get her shots taken care of

Mark, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for him? You can pm me of you don't want it public. I'm just interested for my self. If not, no biggie! Thanks

Yeah I could care less about a show dog, my Aussie/lab mutt is the best dog!! And much better than any pure breed that any of my family or friends have! I just love aussies so that's why I was asking!!

i paid 500 for him. i'd say that's about what you'd pay for an aussie with the purpose of having him be a pet, probably up to 750ish. there's a lot of aussie/border collie breeders around that breed right from working lines for herding. those are suposedly the best and heartiest of the breed, but you're looking at 1000 minimum. the tough part of getting a dog from those lines though is that they are basically made to herd. they have a very very high energy drive and an instinct for herding; not exactly what most families are looking for. i could have this guy AKC registered but most people in and around aussies frown on the AKC because they really only look at physical conformation, when aussies and other herding dogs are bred for working.

for the record, i was trying to adopt/rescue a dog, but i also wanted the right dog for me. i got really turned off by some of the rescue groups i tried to work with. key word tried. i found a couple puppies i was interested in, and everytime i tried to ask questions about it, they ignored the questions and just sent me the adoption application for me to fill out. i realize that its very important to make sure you cover your bases with a rescue dog, because you don't want the dog to be in and out of foster and shelter care. i wanted to make sure i covered all my bases too. i finally found the perfect rescue dog for me, she was an aussie/border collie mix pup, 6.5 weeks old. i sent a lonnngggggg drawn out email to the rescue group asking questions and making sure she was still available. the guy answered me back almost immediately saying yes, she was available, and i should fill out an application. i took this to mean i might have a good shot at getting her, so excitedly i filled out the app and sent it back by the end of the day. three days went by and i didnt even get word that he rec'd my app. so i sent an email just trying to check the status, and even offering to go down and meet with the rescue group owners and have a face to face interview, so they knew i was right for the dog. still no answer. so two weeks goes by and i find out about Kenny by pure chance and i pounce on him. i felt bad because i had that application out there, but i couldn't even contact him so what was the harm? a few days later i get an email from him. "Emmie is already adopted, but we do still have [referenced random pups from group] available" ... And that was it. so i spent all that time filling out the application with every reason i could think of why i would be perfect for that dog and then waiting and waiting and waiting...and he tells me she's gone, but he has random other puppies available.

/end rant

tldr; had hard time with rescue group.

however i do still think it's very important and great that people put their time into these rescue groups, i must have just run into some tough ones to deal with. i even withheld the name of that particular group because i don't want to turn people off to trying it out. thousands of pets get adopted by these groups so clearly they work for a lot of people
