3 red lights of doom. Still under warranty, so they ship and fix. I just signed up for xbox live a couple weeks ago and now that will go to waste. 2-3 weeks after I get shipping box i should have it back. Not happy, but oh well. I thought they took care of reliability issues with these?

Old xboxes don't have rings of death. Heh.

For the record, I went through 4 360's before I got one that didn't crap out.

As a die-hard gamer, you have my condolences. But honestly, this is one of the bigger reasons I have chosen to get a PS3 instead of the 360.

see i never understood why they crap out... i bought one when they first came out, played it for 2 years, and sold it. . ...never had a problem with it.

Common theory is that is it excessive heat from the video chipset causing problems on the mainboard. Supposedly the newer 65nm "Falcon" chipset runs cooler, but it's still having the same issues.

The failure was is supposedly around 30%, so I'm not surprised you didn't have a problem, lot's of people haven't. But 30% is still far too high if you ask me, that's still a lot of people having problems because MS rushed it through QC.

The final nail in the 360 for me was actually when I almost bought one. A relative of the GF's was going to sell me their's on the cheap, but backed out at the last minute. Next time I see them, I found out the system had bricked a few weeks later, and was a first generation unit that was apparently out of even the extended warranty. That close call of me almost losing my money sealed the deal of me not wanting one.

Me too, actually. I'm an equal-opportunity gamer, however the only "next-gen" system I've gotten around to buying is the Wii. A buddy of mine and I used to (try to) write the gaming blog over at mainetoday.com, and we played up the fanboy angle a bit.

Ah, well - as for the red lights of death, you've already checked to make sure that it's not just the "overheat" warning?

Also, are you still under any warranty at all? 90 days from date of purchase comes with all units, but did you get any sort of extended thing through Microsoft or your retailer?

I have a PS3. It just sits there while I use the PS2. There are no games for it, and I hate the fact that I cant transfer my saved games. WTF was Sony thinking with that??
