rust spots

so i have rust spots all down the side of my car, on the side skirts, the doors, and even inside the jambs, so i stop in and mention it. as usual, i was told that it is the nature of the beast and i just have to deal with it. nayone else with an sti get rust spots on the side of your car. i was told, that the metallic pads give off residue and dust, then since it is metallic, it will rust on the side of the car, however i can clay bar it off. like i want to do that all the time. maybe i am crazy, but 35000 dollars for a car, it should stop right and not get rusty all the time. any one got any ideas or have this issue, or just wanna chime in. :BangHead:

different pads yeah, but it has 10000 miles, they are still brand new, and how much will new pads set me back. i dont think ishould have to buy new pads to make a new car brake and not have rust spots, just my opinion.. :help:

It really doesn't sound like you've been happy with this car at all :sad5:

I've never owned (or driven, or even been in) a STI, so I can't comment on the braking or rusting issues myself, but I wonder why none of the other STI owners have seen these issues if they're as common as you're being told they are.

Either you're beating the spit out of your car, never washing it, and have ridiculous expectations for the vehicle's performance and durability, or you're being fed a line of BS.

Any of the STIers care to weigh in on this?

Take a few deep breathes :dontknow:
Sounds like your problem is winter more than the STi, something about unrealistic expectations. Here is a detailing website http://www.autopia.org/ they could probably suggest some hard long lasting waxes that may help prevent this problem over the winter with a couple of reapplications.

I had the same rusty spots when I lived in OOB.

it has to do with the salt we use and the metalic content of the pads (and the train in OOB).

mine pretty much is gone in the summer. a good wax will keep it from being an issue.

I owned a 06 black STI for two years and I never saw any rust spots on it and I drove it all year :icon_scratch:( of course that's half the fun) I put 16,000 miles on it and Auto-crossed all season too. But the 2008 FJ I owned (silver) had those tiny rust spots on it everywhere, front, back ,sides. I was afraid when I traded it in for the FSXT they would not give me a good trade, but I was lucky they didn't look to close. Like Pedro said WAX, WAX, WAX .

i actusally had them last fall, and mentioned it. now i looked again and they are there. i am going to put a good wax on, but what kind of place says, its the nature of the beast, they will be therte, and there is nothing we can do, except claybar them off. sounds like a cop out to me. i called subaru of na to see if anyone else has this complaint, waiting for a call back.

Apparently the same kind of place that has customers come in complaining that their car is dirty. :bom:

I'm just wondering what you expect subaru to do?

the salt brine that some road maintenance crews lay down is just heinous on anything rust-able

it's far worse than even the hard rock salt you see the trucks spewing

it eats hard brake lines in a couple of winters. you just wait, there will be a big scandal about the salt brine in a couple years...I bet they won't be able to use it much longer. not only does it eat cars, but it rots bridges, storm drain grates, guardrail posts, etc

salt brine + metallic pads + a heavy 300-hp car like an STI + a heavy right foot + the resulting hard braking = sharply increased wear and tear.

get used to it -- an STI is just not like "normal" cars. what's normal on an STI simply isn't the same as with most others. you might have better luck with your dealer if you just man up and deal with this instead of trying to make every thing you don't like about the car into THEIR FAULT. (not a flame fest here, just pointing out reality)

It's aggravating they waste soooo much time and money trying to make the roads drivable for the majority of people who can't be bothered to properly winterize their cars at the expense of those who actually take care of their cars... cars.
Not trying to flame you dyzfr6 just thinking you are pointing your frustrations at the wrong people.

Maine DOT for using salt brine on the roads, yourself for driving it hard (if you do, in fact get on that thing occasionally) and not washing/waxing more often. Not sure where else to point the finger.

the real problem with having a nice, new car...is that just driving it around normally :angel12: tends to make it less nice, and less new.

thank you potholes, brine, salt, sand, rocks, bird doo, sap and crap.

oh, and bombing around back roads and entropy too.
