Scarey wildlife moment

Friday morning I headed off to work. I drove by my next door neighbor's house then saw a coyote running across the road full steam. When the coyote saw me he dropped something large he was carrying. He was running so fast the partial carcus skidded across the road from the middle to the other side. As I crawled by the scene I got a good look at the deer parts and saw more parts on the other side of the road. The coyote was carrying the hips and back legs portion of a small deer and the other part was a section of rib cage or something.

Then I realized, hey, these dudes are working pretty close to my house. Hope my cat is ok.

dammm.... yeah it sounds like the cafeteria is close by!

I would certainly keep kitty close at hand, they do have the advantage of climbing but can still get caught off guard my a skilled predator or group of.

I'd hate to loose a family pet to the food chain....

I keep my ten pound dog awful close day and night., she is pretty much a snack out here. Until we moved here she had only known leashes, sidewalks and groomed lawns with built in sprinklers.

Cool story.

I don't ever see coyotes, but lots of bears, foxes, and moose.

I've noticed the bears around here are getting less and less timid of humans. I had one hanging out on my porch earlier this summer while my dog was barking from inside. It didn't seem too phased, but when I opened the door and yelled it took off into the woods. Got a picture though.

You should of run em down. I speed up when I see coyotes. I also set a chair on my back porch every once in a while waiting for them, so I can take pot shots at them when they come out of the woods. They like to meander around back there. There's a den about 200 yards into the woods.

I haven't seen a bear around here in 12 years. The fox and coyote seem to rotate summers. I put the crosshairs on a coyote a few years back while deer hunting. That guy disappeared while I waited for him to come out from some bushes. He was chasing deer, moments before I let a doe walk by. The coyote was following the doe along the same general direction.

I dont think there are a lot around, but they do cover a lot of real estate.

My cat is a regular old Maine black kitty. He comes and goes as he pleases. Occasionally he'll bring a present. He's fixed and doesn't fight. He visits the neighbors and they give him treats. Hopefully they adopt him before winter. He wont go outside if he can't dig a poop hole and poop outside. So he stays inside and digs up the cat box and makes a mess all winter.
